Just set up a game as players wanted min rl age 25...(there's a reason car insurance goes down at this age

You'll still get morons , but probs a lower percentage

I was very hopeful that this statement would be true (even if it is sarcasm), and that Civ4 online would be free from the cretins that infest so many other online games. Sad to see that I was wrong....

Oh, well. I'm perfectly happy with Civ4 as a single-player game. Most of my gaming time is on a laptop while riding a bus, so there wouldn't be much opportunity to play MP anyway.

Being an idiot is not the preserve of the under 25's and neither are there more young people who are idiots than adults in my experience. France is OK as is Egypt, Persia, Mongolia, Rome, China(one of my personal faves) ind fin rocks,Mali,Greece, India, Washington(purely for the traits), Inca Point is there are so many good civs to chose from, India with this ghastly +20% build costs is probably even more overpowered than it was before. Everyone knows this though so just ban it from your games or go random if it bothers you that much, either that or all pick Asaka or Ghandi

IMO you should play both SP and MP. Once you've finished beating the semi ******** AI and you think your just soooo good, come play with the MP crowd, you might find it a bit more challenging than an opponent that is as predictable as something very predictable that's being even more predictable than usual. I think you'd be surprised at the level of the human player compared to the AI.

I think the key is to play with people that you already know & respect, not anonymous losers from around the world. For examples, see Sullla's Civ4 MP pages:

As previously stated, most of my Civ4 time is on the bus, away from the 'Net and any possible multiplayer action. Therefore, I'm merely a curious bystander in these areas.

For me it's whatever floats your boat. Mp is far more of a challenge for me than SP ever could be, and this is what I like, if I have to get told off by a 12 year old kid, then you can be sure I can always respond by killing him or by telling him what it is I am doing, just having techs is not a route to victory on it's own, it's what you do with it that counts. I dont need to be technologically advanced to march a big stack of whatever into someones land and kill them, that'll come later

THis sort of goes back to my earlier point. Maybe they weren't really snobs, but were just trying to push themselves to a challenge. "Pick France or Aztec" may not have been a statement of support for those civs, but rather an indictment of how poor those civs would have been in the selected parameters of the game, thus insuring maximium challenge.

I mean, clearly a self-appointed "expert" would seek not so much the easiest path to victory as they would the epic challenge. We're so quick to label these guys as snobbish troglodytes, when in fact they may have been encouraging their fellow "expert" to attain new heights of Civilization actualization.

I haven´t tried Civ 4 online, but I once tried to log in to a MP-game of Hearts of Iron 2. Since I was new to MP for this game, I asked politely about the rules for such a game. This resulted in sarcastic laughter and a ban from the game!

It must be especially tough for people that play online games like World of Warcraft and has no choice to avoid occasional(?) disrespectful idiots!

i've never played an online game anywhere where there hasn't been something like that (although that's pretty mild) to either me or someone else i know. usually it involves hacking or warping accusations or insults realting to your parentage.

I am so frighteningly good at the game that the only challenge I find is to play with artificially intelligent robots or players that have been beta testing for two years at least. I lable all my games expert to Elite only, all noob will be mocked and derided, or I would if I could fit it in the title of the game. I hate anyone who's a kid and a little excitable, and I will only play with those who I deem worthy of little higher than mild contempt. But hey that's just me Some days I wonder how I ever manage to get a game at all. Are my standards too high?

In MP patience is not a virtue it's a prerequisit, and I'm not just talking about the reloads and drops. If you judge the entire MP experience by 1 or 2 games then I'm afraid your likely to look a tad inexperienced. Spend a month on line at least, find players you like and try and avoid those who get on your nerves, but don't judge MP based on a few ,and it is fortunately a few idiots. In every walk of life there will be smacktards love that word.
