civ v demo release time announced: 10 AM eastcoast, 7 AM westcoast, 4 PM middle europ

I have a simple question and I couldn't find a simple answer to it...
Why the downloadable version of the game (directly bought at steam) have an unlock time to USA (21, September) and another one to the rest of the world (23/24 september, plus a few hours)?
Not a complain, it's a genuine curiosity. :)

because the release date for the rest of the world is not until the 23rd and/or the 24th (at least I know that about Europe):king:

Well its more of a tradition. In america games have always been released on the middle of the week and in europe on end of the week. Neither want to change the date so it usually is that europe gets the games later than america. Spore is one of the rare games that was first released on europe and few days later in america.

Why do they even give a hoot about tradition? It affects nothing. To be honest, I think release dates should be abolished; content (not just games) should be released as soon as they are ready, no sooner and no later.

Iono. No steam acct presently. We'll know in 17 hours 7 minutes. In any case, we will likely experience bandwidth choke if the activity on these forums is anything to go by.

Steam has more than enough bandwidth to support the number of CFC members lol.

It's still early release for me as I'm waiting to the 23rd to be able to play (uh, woo?). I'm on nights but I think I'll need to get up early so I can start teh download of the demo this afternoon as I full plan on spending my couple days off playing with the demo before the 'proper' release.

edit: From the Firaxis post:
"The demo will allow you to play 150 turns. You get a choice between 3 civilizations to play as, and you can't change the map settings (Small Continents) or game speed (Standard.) The tech tree is also limited to everything up to the medieval era."

Sounds like an excellent taster.

8:46 AM here in Europe. I guess I should go to sleep to pass time faster ... I hope I can get the demo today.

Seems i wont be able to DL it from work, damned proxy

Not that i'll have much time to try it out before saturday anyway

I had hoped demo would come an hour or 2 earlier then full release so I sure hope their servers can handle our combined downloads :D

Well, you can Pre-download the game files if you pre-purchased through Steam, no need to wonder about their servers. I can't imagine you'll need to get a patch or hotfix upon the moment of release, probably just a cd-key or validation certificate generated by Steam (other Steam games were like this).

Well, piracy will level the playing field, as always. It doesn't really affect them from my end because I always preorder so they'll get my money, its just a shame that their idiocy will cost them money from people who'll conclude from the pirated version that game is not worth buying. Internet destroyed a lot of locality based traditions, this one should die off too.

I really hoped they'd release it at 00:00 of any US time so I'd be able to play the demo right as soon as I wanted to (don't have to work today)
grml... now I have to do some usefull stuff -_-
