Hi There. Earlier this year, just after getting Civ V, I posted a mail here saying that I was disapointed with it. However, going back to CivIV then back to this, I now find it quite good :) In fact my favourite Civ was Civ2 but this is coming to equal it? As I get to know it better it may even surpass?
But there is a couple of things I'd like answers to:- 1. I find that the message, "Please wait" a bit misleading? If I don't do or touch anything it remains for ages. Can someone please advise about that?
2. What are those crimson coloured blocks scattered around the land.
Cheers....D.

Hey, I think it's new after the latest patch. If you press next turn and you have more orders to give it doesn't automatically jump to the thing that needs orders. I don't know if its a bug or intended. But what you can do is simply select any one of your units and press the next unit arrow and it will jump to the thing that needs orders.
The crimson dots on mostly tundra hills I believe? I think are some sort of graphical bug.

Please wait means simply that- the game is running through processes, and waiting for them to complete. You'll notice that, in late game, after multiple cities and numerous units exist, it gets longer. Just be patient, it does go away. Mods tend to make it a little longer, just FYI.

As for the checkerboards, that is a glitch that happens when too much is going on for your computer to handle. If you notice, the game periodically "re-draws" tiles, if you don't mess with anything until the tiles on your screen are drawn, it should be fine. If not, they'll be fine after restarting your game (you dont have to exit Civ V to fix this), and they don't affect strategic view. I think its more of a computer issue than a game one, though.

There's a bug with this current patch that causes the game to hang up on "Please Wait" which is probably the issue you're describing. Should be fixed really soon according to Dennis Shirk (hopefully along with the other issues related to the end of turn and unit cycling).

This only happens if you have auto unit cycling off. If you have ti on, it will jump to the units that need orders but will end your turn automatically after you have finished giving all orders.

But if a unit has a been ordered a path and it, after, pressing next turn runs into an obstacle the game used to jump to that unit. Now it doesn't.

The exact details of the "please wait" bug are a bit confusing, but the point is it's been confirmed to be bugged and it will be fixed soon according to dshirk.

I agree, this game is great now. And it's still early. After DLC I'd imagine they'll make at least one add-on (hopefully either a "Rise of the City States" or overall foreign relations one), and, perhaps more importantly, hopefully they'll open up the game more for modders.

Yeah, what are the red patches on the landscape? I'm running DX9 and sometimes see what look like pools of blood on some tiles... What are those?

Graphical glitches. I believe they were fixed a few patches back. Are you playing a pirated version?

He is probably not. I have an original, fully registered version and red spots, too, every now and then. Not that I do care much about them...

Edit: To late. As so often.

Yep, I'm playing with the latest version and I still get those red blobs occasionally, and all kinds of other strange graphical glitches.

Last game I got the one where the unit graphics appear in the wrong tile. It's an obvious bug because the icon still appears in the correct place. Weird thing is, units that attack them attack the tile where the graphics are, not where the unit actually is. I saw a treb firing at something 6 tiles away!

uhm, no. I have it on steam; my user name is Jailshady. I've played civ for many years and I'm a full gorwn man and can buy my own copy and DLC of civ, thank you.

I still see the pools of blood from time to time. Sometimes it's a smear of blood... I run a decent computer... Run civ at almost highest settings, but I have windows XP (bootcamp, only version of windows I own). I don't need crazy graphics.

A friend has a more powerful computer and runs dx11 and does not see pools of blood. I agree it must be a graphical glitch. I used to think you could follow a the pools of blood to barb camps when I first played civ 5, 8)

Just be patient while you spend 2 hours or more per game of civ doing nothing at all. If you bang your head against the wall enough times, it DOES go away!

Hi There! Thanks for the replies. I first thought that the red 3-D blocks were some kinds of treasure?
Cheers....D.

There's something funny going on. Sometimes "Please Wait" comes up when I still have units to move, and sometimes it seems like I have auto-end turn on when I don't.
