Who wants to make like an Oracle of Delphi and forecast the future?

I predict "yes", "simultaneous to PC launch" and "same as full price PC version".

Let the flamewars begin

they will have to adapt it to a touch screen, might take a while, though would be awesome on the iPad (which got rave reviews in the WSJ)

dunno, but an iPad CivRev will be out fast

I think they've already said it will be a PC only release initially (I have been overcome by laziness so I'm not going to try to find out where I got that from. A recent thread, a question asked at PAX I think. Help me out someone...)

Also, nobody is going to buy an iPad. /bait.

I don't really think that people expecting to be able to play full, modern, processor intensive Pc game on an iPad.

Now, they could make a Panzer General ap though....

@Caerus Civilization V is going to be PC-only!

And the iPad does run iPhoneOS, so it can't be considered a PC.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't iPad system specs rather puny compared to modern PCs?

The specs on Apple's site say it has a 1GHz processor and make no indication that it has more than one core. It doesn't even say how much memory it has, so I assume that's not a selling point.

Basically, have you ever looked at an iPhone and thought "Wow, wouldn't it be really great if this was too large to fit in my pocket AND unable to make phone calls or send text messages"?

No? Neither have I.

It does leave the door open for lots of jokes though!

I was going to say, it sounds like some sort of feminine product.

agreed, for it's size it just doesn't have enough utility to justify it's existence, better off waiting for HP Slate, or just getting a netbook.
As for Civ5 on iPad? it will NEVER happen, i can guarantee that 100%

The iPad doesn't have anywhere near the compute power needed to run a full version of a Civ game. If you had most of the number crunching done on a server in the cloud and limited it to 2D, you could do it. Until then the iPad (and any of the other Atom or ARM based portables) will be limited to Civ4Dummies and/or Civ Network.

Haha, you guys are funny.

I would TOTALLY bet you $$$ if I could, but of course, we'd never know if you won... but, let me just say I strongly disagree with you.

and we'll see...

Huh? The iPad has a 1GHz processor. You could very easily run Civ 3 on that.

The iPad's main limitation is that its 3D chip (a PowerVR SGX variant) is not even close to the power of a desktop video card from the past 6-7 years.

I'm sorry, I thought I was posting in the Civ V forum. I didn't realize it was the Civ III forum...

I didn't say the iPad couldn't run any version of Civilization ever made, although it was minimally qualified. Since this is a Civ V forum, the 'full version' reference was to differentiate between Civ V and the other, current versions which could potentially be ported to the platform.

Maybe you should head over to an Oblivion forum and tell them the iPad can run an RPG because it's specs are far beyond those needed to run Zork.

How about you go back and read your own post? Here, I can help you out a bit:

Civ 3 is a Civ game, isn't it?

What the heck is an iPad?
Imagine a pile of dung. That's basically it.

Basically, have you ever looked at an iPhone and thought "Wow, wouldn't it be really great if this was too large to fit in my pocket AND unable to make phone calls or send text messages"?

Yup. I love the iPhone, but the Pad seems utterly pointless.

What the heck is an iPad?

Sounds like some sort of typo. :crazyeye:
Think a super sized iPhone that can run most netbook programs and is the best e-reader ever, good for surfing the internet, and watching movies, plus 10+ hour battery life

Max iPad :D
