Just remove eras all togther, its better then how civ 5 handels it in my opinion.
Civilization 5, and Civilization 4 system is very strange, Civilization 3 did handle eras much better but science much worse instead.
In Civ 5 if you beeline for a era and skip everything else you are considered more advanced then the once that tech broadly which is very strange.
