Update 1.2.4 is on the way!

Hey, Civfanatics! :wavey: Tomorrow we’re releasing Update 1.2.4! It’s on the lighter side, but we wanted to keep momentum going and get these improvements into your hands:

⬢ Wonder Rebalancing
⬢ Age Transition Improvements
⬢ Quality-of-Life Updates
⬢ ...and more!

Our very own Carl the Carlbarian has a quick rundown:

The Wonder balance changes are neat. Most excited about the big changes to come. I know you folks are cookin’!

But... just an hour ago, I thought that today would be be a good day to start a new game...

Wonder rebalance is very welcome. But I wonder why Byrsa only got a tech change? It seems to be one of the weakest wonders in the game, at least to me.
Colossus on currency, on the other hand, sounds familiar, and it's good to see hellenistic "techs" and wonders reunited.

I was about to start a new game as I just finished one last night but looks like i'll be holding off until tomorrow.
In all the games i've played so far i've only built Byrsa once as it's very weak on a continents map, it may be more useful on other maps though.

I like small updates like these tbh. Feels like a good place for balance changes, in between more consequential ones. And the regularity is comforting.

I think in Civ VII more than in previous Civ games, many Wonders are far more situationally-useful than Generally Great.

Brysa is a good example: in a city with multiple coastal quarters, it saves a bunch of time and effort protecting them all. On a Continental map, on the other hand, there may not be any such cities in your Empire.

Good example: a couple of days ago I built Brysa for the first time in literally months. I had conquered Ashoka in Antiquity, and his erstwhile capital was on the coast. I expanded its original two partial Quarters to three fully- built up Quarters, all on the coast, and then built Brysa to protect the city center and all 3 Quarters with a single build. That was the first such city I have seen in a dozen games, though, where Brysa was so useful it was worth building.

Ooooh edge scrolling. How much longer until we get shift-click research queueing, ya reckon?

Greatly welcoming edge scrolling personally...and I happily take the increased gold and influence takeover, too. I don't feel able to jugde the wonder balancing, but have trust that they changes are warranted. The only aspect I'm slightly sceptical is the loosened terrain requirements...I personally prefer a stronger impact of gepgraphy here.

If I understand Carl's remark about "improved map generation on the horizon" correctly (fairly at the beginning of the video) than this is something to expect in future updates, right? If so, not minding that they take time...it is appreciated that this aspect gets improved and several mods already showed what is possible in terms of more "natural maps"

i hope better map generation means that the continents no longer are rectangular in shape. that's a bit silly.

Poor, poor House of Wisdom...
While I hate to see any Wonder 'nerfed', House of Wisdom is an example of a Wonder that, I swear, was bee-lined by every AI in the game in every game. It was among the Wonders that I knew I had to concentrate on from the beginning of the Age to have any Hope of getting, so if nerfing it puts it back into contention of some kind, I can't object to it.

I suspect the AI wonder targeting is based on some other criteria than just what's overall "good," because I regularly notice them totally ignoring some great choices while opting to go for some particularly weaker ones, like ignoring Angkor Wat and fixating on Monk's Mound.
