I am hoping that the availability of C3C for the Mac will encourage more players to try the GOTM series of competitions. So I've been checking out Civ3 Complete compatibility with the GOTM systems, and wanted to alert you to a couple of issues before you trip over them yourselves.
1. Civ3 Complete doesn't compress its manual saves. This has clearly been noted in the current Succession Game, as players are exchanging files by zipping them to get them small enough to upload on the forum. However, the automated submission systems for C/GOTM and SGOTM do not accept ZIP files, so this will have to be resolved. In the short term I have recompiled some compression code provided by Dianthus to enable me to submit saves. I hope to wrap this up as a Drag'n'Drop utility that Mac players can use to compress files for submission.
2. The SGOTM mod doesn't work if it's just dropped into a Scenarios folder, either in the Application folder or in your Documents folder. I have only been able to make it work by swapping the modded resources.pcx and resource_shadows.pcx files into /Applications/Civ III Complete/Conquests Game Data/Art/.
3. I've also detected an occasional problem with saves I've downlaoded from PC C3C players during SGOTM 9. They will load up OK in Compete, but won't then save. This *may* be related to some stray data that the PC throws into the save if it's previously been involved in a multi-player game, but investigation continues.
Brad is aware of these issues.
