hi all
i did post a thread at the beginning of this post with a couple of questions regarding the XP, but now it's turned into a "should we/shouldn't we pay" debate (which is a good thing), i thought i'd just stick in my two-pence worth. if you don't agree, please feel free to reply, but let's keep it a debate, as opposed to an argument
ok, as far as the MP issue goes, i most definitely do not feel that we should pay for it. to begin with, they (infogames/firaxis- i don't know who) are .not selling 8 new civilizations, they are selling the MP option. they don't quite have the nerve to sell just the MP option, which they know will be a big seller, so they stick a few more civs with it, and hey, it's an expansion pack. many people would not buy this XP if it didn't include MP. like a lot of people, i find that sixteen is more than enough civilizations to be getting along with. i mean, it's not as if using different civs makes a huge difference to a game, in the same way as, say, Age Of Empires. don't get me wrong, i'm not losing any sleep over it, and i'm certainly not in the slightest bit angry - business is business. i feel more for younger players, or those who are not so financially stable - for me, it's more the principle that annoys me.
also, right from the very, very beginning of the civIII publicity machine (interviews, previews, tasters etc.) to not long before it's release, we were told it would include an MP option. so what, you might say. well, this clearly indicates that it was going to be included from the word go, as opposed to customer demand after releasing the game. MP now is a standard option in just about every game released, and paying for it is just not on. just picture it in your mind - forget the other 8 civs and just think for a moment - your are parting with your hard-earned cash for.......a basic, standard option - multiplayer.
as for the game editor, i don't design my own scenarios, but i'm sure those of you who do, could repeat the last two paragraphs, replacing the words 'multiplayer' with 'game editor'. maybe, maybe not - comments welcome.
as for the eight new civs you can stick them where the civ dont shine, baby.

btw, im going to create a poll, i think you can guess the subject. any suggestions? It will be interesting to see who would buy the XP if it didnt include the MP option. so far:
a/ if MP option was a free patch i will still buy XP and be perfectly happy to do so
b/ will buy the XP but only for the MP option - but still happy to do so
c/ will buy the XP but only for the MP option and NOT happy about it
d/ keep my money and buy another game/cd/pack of beers etc.
