Is it wrong to have a favorite nephew? ;) I have three, and I've been teaching them to play Civ3. The middle one, who's eight years old, is a future pro :)
On chieftain level, standard map, playing as Rome, and with surprisingly little advice from Uncle Dan (me), he's the highest rank civ in the world nearing 10 A.D (still really early, I know.)

Besides how damn proud I am, especially when he picked a fight with Ghandi, this is a challenge to you adults who play on chieftain. An 8 year old is giving you guys a run for your money... :D

-LoL-

No insult intended to your protege DannyE,

but it makes one wonder if Firaxis designed the game with 8 year olds in mind. ;)

I have a ten year old learning to play. At first he just declared war and lost promptly. I stopped "teaching" him and just answered question whenever he had them.

Over the weekend I checked in on him since he hadn't asked any questions in days. He had seven cities (small map), was making an effort to stay out of war with the Aztecs because he was embroiled with Rome. He told me that he didn't trust the Aztecs and was prepared to defend if they should suddenly attack. He was also razing cities rather than holding them because they were too far to defend right now.

When we get MP I plan to tell him to do his chores or I'll invade.

Yep.

But congrats to the youngsters for doing well and learning (some) History. :goodjob:

Or if it was designed BY an 8-year old...

Mr Hippo,

Thanks for making me a responsible member of the community. From now on when I have a complaint about you I will PM you directly or PM Thunderfall and not jack a thread again. I am so sorry! :goodjob:

Sounds alot like how my 31 year old girlfriend handled it on first sight. She got into a war quick, couldn't understand why, but seemed really into it once she took the war into the Roman's turf.

When we get MP, I'll tell her to do my chores or I'll invade.

Yeah, it's really cool. I was watching him play and all that but had to leave to help cook dinner. When I came back, I saw that he'd built up a stack of legionaries outside a greek city preparing for war!
Next thing you know, he takes the city, destroys a second, then makes peace when he sees his invasion force is thinning out.

I haven't been able to explain to him just how important those temples are yet, though, because I've got the governor in charge of happiness, and he's having a blast building Great Wonders  He loves how big the Colossus looks in the city view.

The only thing I got from trying toteach my sister how to play Civ2 was a very blank look:rolleyes:

I did'nt even try Civ3:p

The only thing I got when I taught my sister to play, was the inability to play for a week. Everytime I wanted to play all I heard was "You always get to play, I am just here for a week!"

Dear Hippo,

I suggest you just delete a post of mine which you don't like -instead of derisively editing it. "Blah blah blah "

Did we missed something?

Read it again and I am sure that you didn't. :D No more OT comments in here please. :)

I got my younger brother in-law (8 y/o) hooked on civ. I started him a few months ago with Civ2 but since he saw Civ3 he loves to play that instead. He leaves Civ2 for when he is in school! (after school of course, waiting to be picked up) :D
