"Civ3 on Earth" succession game.

:goodjob: all :)

If no new player comes along and requests to play then I am next in line to play...

Legions...[dance]

The early writings of Soreus, clearly demonstrate that during the period around 1000 BC the Roman Empire enjoyed a burst of significant growth. Ruled for a long time by several rulers calling themselves builders, after the first of their line Meldor. As many books have been writen about this period, we will endevor to hit only the high spots.

The first record of Meldor the Builder dates back to approximately 1500 BC, and begins with the sudden death of the previous emperor. The resulting anarchy and trials, allowed a more gentle period to begin in Rome's history.

The first acts of this new ruler were to stop the building of an offensive army in Rome, and begin the construction of a great Pyramid. It was noted that several of the civilizations surrounding Rome also attempted to build a simular facade. This ediface was not complete at the end of the reign of builders and history shows that the English were just slightly behind them in its construction.

A brief summary of the collective builders is found in the Sicilian scrolls and is paraphrased as follows:

Pre-turn Switch Rome to Pyramids. On this map size and with Europe, Asia and Africa as one connected land mass, this wonder is too huge to allow any one else to get it. This one and Sun Tzu's will be must haves. All the others will be nice. However, it will be 85 turns to completion...this will not cut it.

1) 1475 BC - Warrior invades village, villagers flee but warriors collect 50g. Start minig everything not nailed down in ROME.

2) 1450 BC - The villagers had fled to an encampment north of the village. The warrior disperses this encampment and finds a further 25g for the treasury. We purchase contact with England for 30g. We would buy contact with Russia, but we are next to their border and will have it next turn anyway. Sell contact with England to everyone else for 48g.

3) 1425 BC - Get contact with Russia, the are broke and behind in tech.

4) 1400 BC - Chase off a German archer. Germany starts the Pyramids.

5) 1375 BC - Pull archer and send it towards Rome. Ro,e will expand to six in two turns and riot if it only has on garrison.

6) 1350 BC - Archer in Rome, archer to the south is sent north as a replacement.

7) 1325 BC - Archer fortified and Rome grows, still working on gettting Rome in shape to get Pyramids. Have cut time down to 65 turns. Russia starts the Pyramids.

9) 1275 BC - Neapolis founded near western coast of expansion lands.

10) 1250 BC - England finishes the Colossus and starts the Pyramids....we are down to 32 turns but this could be trouble. We don't have any Embassies so I take this time to get them with the countris that are most likely to give us trouble on the Pyramids. Just as I feared, England is 5 turns ahead of us.

12) 1200 BC - Persia, Greece and France all start the Pyramids but they are too late to give any competition. I have shaved another 2 turns off and we are now only 3 turns behind.

13) 1175 BC - We trade France Horeback riding for 40g and Mysticism. We then sell it to everyone else for another 65g. Keep them all broke is what I say.

17) 1075 BC - Eygpt begins the Oracle

19) 1025 BC - Germany demands our full treasury, I tell him to politely go away....he declared war!

20) 1000 BC - Pyramids have 2 more shaved off. We are now only 1 behind. One German horse driven off. Archer is attacked and kills a German Archer. Pompeii founded.

22) 950 BC - The Greeks join the Germans against us. I tried to get England in on our side, if for nothing more than to slow their Pyramid effort, but no dice.

24) 900 BC - I took a couple of extra turns to get us the Pyramids. 2 more turns have been shaved off. We are now one turn ahead of the English.

Notes: There is one more settler in the Spain area. Two cities are now building Vet Legions. Once these attck Germany, it should start our Golden age. This should get us the Pyramids without any sweat. I would suggest that if there is no cascade to the Great Library that we get that as well during our Golden age. The next tech should probably be construction as our cities will be bursting at the seems with the Pyramids. Please do not mess with Rome unless you can increase its shields. I did take a couple of extra turns, and will gladly give them back next time I play. We are in very good position now to wipe Europe. There are two spears in almost every city, so growth to six should not be a problem if we watch when it occurs.

Good Luck!

Hey kitten, i say you just start up your turn. I think 4 will be good. If someone shows up later then we can fit them in at the end or something (I WANT TO PLAY!!!!)

875 B.C (1)

The line of Meldor peacefully came to an end...Kittanus an adopted son forming the new Dynasty as Meldor the Aged had no sons.

The Empire is extremely prosperous with the population happy with their lot and our army extremely strong for defensive purposes. Roads link nearly every city and we have numerous work teams constructing new roads, irrigation and mines.

In short ruling the Empire was easy for the young Kittanus and he could concentrate on improving his Palace and finding wives...

Empire:
Cumae constucts another unit of spearmen...and starts upon the construction of "City Walls" in case of Germanic/Greek invasion.

Kittanus forms the Legions of the Rhine...which are sent to defend the Rhine border we have with the German Empire.

Whilst on the vast Steppes roaming the lands between French settlements our charioteers explore...

Kittanus looks to trade abroad, technology, maps and other commodities, but finds the other Civilisations hostile of barren...

850 B.C (2)

Veii builds a Legion, it will join the Legions of the Rhine.

We send a Spearman unit over the Alps to prevent the Germans grazing horses on the fertile Hungarian Plain.

Whilst in the West a Legion crosses the Rhine and heads into the Black Forest to suppress the Germanic peoples living there.

825 B.C (3)

On crossing the Danube our Spearmen are surrounded by horsemen and crushed in a bloody battle, the German horsement then cross the Danube and head for Antium.

Pisea is founded...in the West...it is our furthest West City...

800 B.C (4)

Germans send archers towards Antium...we respond by sending a newly raised Legion to meet them.

Our wise men invent "Literacy", Kittanus directs them towards the art of mapmaking.

Cumae completes her "City Walls" and begins construction of a Temple to the God Mars.

775 B.C (5)

Germans cross Danube into grasslands rich in cattle...

In a night attack our Legion of the Danube descends from the Mountains near Antium and annhilates the German forces...in the encounter not one Roman was killed! This marked the entry of the Roman Civilisation into a "Golden Age"!

750 b.c (6)

Lutetia and Veii complete Legions...

On the Steppe we come across Corinth (a Greek town)...our chariots enter the undefended settlement and burn it to the ground leaving the survivors to starve...

730 B.C (7)

The Germans capture some of our workers constructing a road to aid our offensive on Berlin...

In the counteroffensive archers and horsemen pour out of Berlin...it may mean that Berlin is now vulnerable!

A Legion assaults Berlin...failure...we hold off with the other Legion and have the Legion of the Danube recapture our workers and kill the archers guarding it.

In this action our Legion becomes Elite in skill...and no wonder!

710 B.C (8)

Our Elite Legionairies defend the workers before striking East and butchering another force of archers. In the heat of that Battle a Roman Officer excelled himself in leading the Legionaires against the archers, that man was Trajan!

We gain a great leader! Trajan.

Recognised as a leader of men that could control an massive host of men Kittanus calls Trajan from his exposed Legion back to Antium.

Whist in the hills around Antium our archers strike out and destroy the Germanic horsemen threatening the city...the workers and Trajan can safely return. Trajan is to gather to him an army in Antium.

690 B.C (9)

Without Trajan the Danube legion is destroyed by Germanic horsemen.

Trajan awaits in Antium to create an army!

Antium is fortified to become a base of operations.

Meanwhile Berlin is beseiged by 2 of our Rhine Legions.

670 B.C (10)

Setup embassy in Babylon...this is a small Nation or no threat to Rome.

Greek archers approach Cumae...the defences will be tested!

We eliminate the German source of horse for Berlin...Leipzig has a local supply...

650 B.C (11)

Despite our walls at Cumae, the Greek archers beat our spearmen...could we lose the city???

The Russians demand writing, and we refuse...war...our larger army did not deter them...

630 B.C (12)

We complete the Pyramids...other Civilisations direct their constructions towards "The Oracle", whilst the English work on a "Great Lighthouse."

Antium builds walls, greeks withdraw from around cumae.

Our legion around berlin destroys another horseman unit.

Germans have horses near leipzip...at least berlin can't build them.

Lutetia to build us some settlers.

An army of 4 legions led by Trajan heads north for berlin!

610 B.C (13)

Berlin complete the Oracle :)

590 b.c (14)

veii completes a temple.

Trajan leads his army of 4 legions against Berlin...he fails to take the city, but kills a spearman.

From the East a veteran legion attacks and crushs another pikeman.

Another legion of elite legionaires follows up Trajans offensive and defeats the remaining spearmen around the palace in Berlin. Berlin falls.

We capture gold, workers and the Oracle!

Very tough resistance remains!

570 B.C (15)

We start suppressing resistors in Berlin.

Persians contact us...swap world maps...we give them writing to gain this deal.

Germans turn down our demand for their surrender.

Greeks fail to attack Cumae...

We discover mapmaking target maths.

550 B.C (16)

Lutetia celebrates we love the emperor day...

our army ignores the german archers and heads directly for leipzig.

In the Balkans the greek threatening archers are killed by legion.

Egypt embassy formed.

rome building Great Library.

530 B.C (17)

Assault on leipzig successful, another legion becomes elite...town holds still.

German archers in plains of Hungary thrashed.

Balkans...greek horsies forced back by rampaging legion

510 B.C (18)

SHOCK!

Slaughter of Roman Army at Leipzig...Trajan dead!!!

Roman legion kills german horsemen and buries the dead of the battle.

Berlin revolting!

Lutetia builds settlers.

490 BC (19)

Roman Legion assaults Leipzig...same fate as Army...

Balkan legion dies...but Greeks suffer massive casualties as they try to kill the supporting spearmen...

English land near lutetia keen on settling.

470 B.C (20)

English build Notthingham

Peace made with Greeks.

Peace made with Germans...territory map, 2 workers and a little gold in return.

Peace with Russians...we get a territory map in return!

450 B.C (new reign begins)

hm, looking very good :) great job taking berlin and the oracle…I would really like to crush the germans once and for all, well lets see what I can do :)

Ravenna is founded;
I exchange world maps with everyone, wow, Russia is growing fast, germany also has a town far in the east of Russia, so taking them out completely will not be possible as easy as I thought…France, Persia and Russia have much land to settle and expand

here is a screen of our world

here is the savegame...

some comments:
i really enjoyed this turn, although the french built the GL :(...BUT i really wanted to go to war this time and i think it was the right decision...germany and greece are now weakened significantly, moreover we have to expand and that means fighting the other civs (russians are next, i think)...

so i'm really looking forward to the next players, i'm very curious how this continues :)

over and out...

Due to time constraints, this write up is brief. Before starting my first turn, i traded constructrion to England and Russia for 70g and 80g+world map.

10 A.D. - Shuffle troops around. Plans are being developed by the Roman brass for a Great Invasion. It's success will be based on the element of suprise. It's plans are secret, as is it's mission

30 A.D. - Increased Science output to 100%. Vow to take Thermopylae in two turns.

50 A.D. - Two German Archers approach our territory. They are destroyed.

70 A.D. - Thermopylae invasion postponned. A larger army will be needed.

90 A.D. - Defeat German archer out side Leipzig. Defeat Greek archer out side Thermopylae. I decide that from here on out I will be writing Ther. for Thermopylae because Thermopylae is such a long word and i keep spelling it wrong and have to correct it and there is no reason to write out Thermopylae everytime you want to say Thermopylae when you could just abbreviate Thermopylae.
:crazyeye:

110 A.D. - Defeat German Archer outside Leipzig. Defeat barbaric encampment with charriot in the far east.

130 A.D. - Conquered Ther.

150 A.D. - Resting Victors of Therm. so they will be prepared to take Delphi to the north.

170 A.D. - Preparations for the Great Invasion running on schedule.

190 A.D. - Road completed to Therm. Attack squad positioned on hills overlooking Delphi. Peace treaty with Germany. We aquire 8g and Frankfurt (not a frankfurt, the Frankfurt, the city). I check out Frankfurt after the deal is done and realize that there are no troops in it and there are two Greek archers right outside the city. Crap.

210 A.D. - Frankfurt taken by Greeks. We lost 9g. Delphi destroyed at the cost of a few legion. :(

230 A.D. - Greek horsemen attack Sparta and loose.:spank: Galley production hurried in Neapolis at the cost of lives.

250 A.D. - Monarchy Descovered. The Empire of Rome has fallen into Anarchy. This unforseen tragedy causes a postponement of the Great Invasion.

260 A.D. -

270 A.D. - :sheep:

280 A.D. - Declaring war on Babalon is not something which Rome wanted to do, but felt it necesarry to hinder their expansion. Babalonian archer and settler attacked outside ther. by our horsemen. They were forced to retreatfrom the battle, and so our Elite legion were called to finish them off. From this great victory was born the great leader Hadrian. He will lead us to better times.

290 A.D. - Our source of Iron near Neapolis has been depleated. We are now a monarchy.

300 A.D. - Hadrian leads the city of Rome in the construction of the Hanging Gardens. OOOOPS!!! 9 of our troops (8 legion, 1 spearmen) have just accidently landed in the country side of London. Perhaps they should be moved...

310 A.D. - ...into London!!!! We dropped the hammer on the English.:spank: Rejoice! The Great Lightouse is ours! Rejoice! We have captured the Colossus! Rejoice! 2 babalon archers destroyed outside Therm. Greece asks for peace treaty. We demand Frankfurt and Knossos. They accept.

320 A.D. - Trade world maps with Persia. London changed to Hadrian in honor of our great Leader. Nottingham is under seige, and reinforcements have just arrived. It should fall next turn.

We have 2 galleys left in the English channel. Use these to send more legion to the island. I think we should be able to have all the cities on those two islands by the end of the next reign. With the addition of Knossos from the Greeks in northern africa, i feel we should begin to colonize that area. For starters, we need troops in Knossos. That's why I started a Galley in Rome, to send some spearmen down there (don't forget to grab the goody hut on the way!). England has a city down there but most of NW Africa seems vacant. If Nottingham is destroyed in the fight, i think we should build a city there. It's a good spot. If someone wouldn't mind attaching a screenshot it would be appreciated. I haven't figured it out yet.

-Waco

hehe :D :D GREAT turn, waco kid :goodjob:

england is so close, but somehow i didnt consider attacking them :) however, your story was a good laugh...

btw, here is a screenie

In case you couldn't figure it out from the reading, in 310 A.D. we built the hanging gardens. I forgot to make it a big deal and when i re-read my post, i wasn't sure how clear i made it. I was thinking we should also consider taking out the German capitol of Konigsberg in the moderate future. We just signed peace with them so we may want to wait a while. They also have a worker developing the land so we may as well allow him to make it a better place before we occupy it. As you can tell, I had a lot of fun playing that last round and am having trouble letting go...

-Waco

Meldor says he will be out of town till Thursday or Friday...so I'm next...Meldor can be fitted in as soon as he returns.

Other comments: I hope you two aren't ruining our reputation?
All my butchery was due to them starting it!

:crazyeye:

Before we get too celebratory, there will be much bigger fish to fry outside of Europe ;)

330 A.D - 540 A.D (21 turns)

"Class! Open your history books to page 235..."

"It was a time of heroes and it was a time of war...it was a time of heroes and war!

Men were real men, women were real men and all drank the fruit of the vine..."

:soldier:

Chaosius was Crowned in Rome in 330 A.D...

The previous line of Wacos renouncing the Throne in favour of commanding Legions at the front...an pursuit that suited better their worklike nature.

Chaosius was son of the Governor of Lutetia and had been "Consul of Rome" whilst the "Grand Waco" fought the English...his goal was to end the bloody wars Rome was engaged in as quickly as possible and improve the economy and living standards of the whole Civilisation and be remembered as a benefactor of humanity rather than a warrior.

1. 330 A.D

Renaming of "Hadrian" to Londinium to try and Romanify the English citizens at the same time as respecting their history!

A quick round of attempted diplomacy reveals complete distrust of our Nation...few emissaries are welcomed in foreign capitals...the Egyptians allow swapping of territory maps, but beyond that are hostile to our advances.

As a result Chaosius commands:

1. Quick resolution of wars by applying maximum force to bring opponents to the negociating table.

2. Start construction of aqueducts in cities requiring it now or soon. Elsewhere concentrate on marketplaces which will boost the income of the Empire.

A result of the distrust and failure to open negociation is that Babylon will take and destroy Frankfurt...
A result of our powerful Legions is that Nottinghams Spearmen are overwhelmed by our Legons and the city is ours.

[plasma]

2. 340 A.D

Babylons as expected burn Frankfurt to the ground...Chaosius is blamed by those ignorant of the real situation, the German ambassador is horrified that Germans in the Roman Empire were left to die this way. The Guard is doubled in Berlin.

Despite this the people fund an expansion to the Palace (which is so backward Chaosius refuses to go there!)...

Resistance in Londinium continues causing fires in the poor parts of the city, the army tries to enfore order.

3. 350 A.D

Technology: "Currency" - NEW AGE - Research "Monotheism"

English launch from numerous ships horsemen in counteroffensive in England...the Roman Army prepares for some major battles...

Whilst in Africa a vast barbarian horde is reported near Knossos...however it looks like the English Cities on that Continent will absorb the blow.

4. 360 A.D

Once again a people rejoicing that most the Empire is free of war, disease and hunger pay for improvements to the Palace.

In general the Empire is concentrating upon internal reforms...

Whilst in England: English warriors destroy an offensive launched from Londinum by Veteran Legions...

Whilst in Sicily: Roman Legion lands and extracts 50 gold from the tribespeople there.

5. 370 A.D

The ongoing war in Babylonia brings large Roman casualites caused by Swordsmen and Babylonian Archers...still the advance on Babylon continues.

England: Bristol in the west of England falls after Roman troops from Nottingham are shipped in.

6. 380 A.D

Fighting in Yorkshire produces a "Great Leader" called Maximus...he is said to have the blood of a Waco (wonder how he got it!) and he is promptly sent to London to advise the Governor on the up and coming attack in Scotland.

:hammer:

7. 390 A.D

Peace with Babylonia is made when the Roman Legions approach the suburbs of Babylon...the terms are:

1. Babylonian Slaves to be sent to Rome
2. Territory maps of Babylonia to be handed over.
3. Communications with the Japanese forfeited.

Considering how little I wished to commit to this war I am pleased with the results.

8. 400 A.D

Japanese envoys contact us, territory maps are swapped and we make peace.

9. 410 A.D

Viroconium founded in Southern Italy.

Whilst in Thebes a "Great Wall" is constructed to fend off enemies and barbarians...

10. 420 A.D

The territory of the Roman Empire are free of War...the people concern themselves with life.

11. 430 A.D

A wave of unhappiness spreads through several cities, population growth outstripping the Empire's ability to provide jobs, houses and luxuries!

Chaosius injects money into the economy not effected by the unrest to prevent it being repeated elsewhere.

12. 440 A.D

Technology: "Monotheism" - "Theology" is being researched.

Scotland: A massive assault is launched by the Roman Army in the Highlands to take the Capital of Queen Elizabeth. Although the English lose more men, their resistance and number makes conquest in this offensive impossible.

Chaosius demands the English look for peace as we sit at the gates of their capital...PEACE! The Terms are:

1. 20 gold
2. 2 English Worker parties to be sent to Rome to work building roads in the Empire.
3. Maps

The English Nation can now be safely considered a vassal nation and we need not concern ourself pursuing their destruction.

13. 450 A.D

Pax Imperialis!

14. 460 A.D

"Lugdinium" is founded in Norway.

15. 470 A.D

"Byzantium" founded on Crete!

We swap "world maps" with the Chinese and Greek Civilisation.

Pax Imperialis!

16. 480 A.D

Pax Imperialis!

17. 490 A.D

Pax Imperialis!

18. 500 A.D

"Brundisium" founded on the Rhine near Helvetia!

The "Great Leader" Maximus visits Denmark...

Whilst in Kamchatka our charioteers are beset by a tribe of barbarians whom them kill improving themselves to "Elite".

19. 510 A.D

Pax Imperialis!

20. 520 A.D

Patciral village near Lugdinium is found to be deserted...

Russia refuses a "Right of Passage Treaty" due to a historic sneak attack by Rome on Germany under such a treaty...presumably in the Reign of Lemming?/Meldor?/Waco?

:spank:

21. 530 A.D

"Syracuse" is founded near Antium...

Taxation is adjusted to:

50% for the coffers
40 % for science
10 % for luxuries...to elminate the unrest when populations grow (very effective!) and reduce production lost by such events.

540 A.D

Chaosius dies of extreme old age...heading up the life expectancy demographics :)

Start of a new reign!

:nya2:

In Summary:

Near doubling productivity, GNP, population and Manufactered goods in addition to raising life expectency by 6 years is good!

Furthermore the cities are well protected and we have no wars distracting us from growth!

We have a "Great Leader" Maximus in Rome...surely he will be useful for some "Great Project" or other in the near future...

I advise we try and not ruin our reputation any more than we have done so already and concentrate on developing our Empire internally, "Kick the World, break your foot" as they say in Siberia!

Whoever wants to play next download the savegame AND then post to say you have it...3 days max! Hopefully Meldor will be able to play soon.

I'm ready to play but i'll give lemming a chance to buzz in since it's supposed to be his turn. As for attacking Germany, that i'm sure wasn't me. I've only sued for peace with the Germans in my turns. The English and the Babalonians, well there i'm guilty. Oh well, no use arguing about it. I would agree that we shouldn't be attacking anyone whom we have treaties with (right of passage, mutual protection) but i'm sure we didn't have any with the Eng. and Babs. Anyway, i'm just babbling.:splat:
