Civ3 PTW Patch v1.21f Released!

Ireland is an indepandant country in every way.

Northern Ireland belongs to the English, and it follows English law, but that is the most rediculas over-simplification it is silly.

To find out more, go check the internet or ask in OT or History. It is a very sensitve issue and this thread is really not the place for it. :)

I find it funny that with this patch release, US version 1.21, renders playing the world unplayable now until the patch is released for all versions. A 1.14 player can't read 1.21 games, so people playing against other nations have to wait...

If reports of real movement lag reduction in this thread is true I am practically wetting myself with excitement for the UK release of the patch :D

Still very dissapointed not to see production popup option reappearing though :(

p.s. DJ54 - nice to see you are interested in broadening your knowledge of the world - in the case of Eire/Northern Ireland & UK, as anarres says it is a sensitive subject to say the least and not suitable for this forum, but I do suggest for your own sake if you do not want to get serious flaming etc. or if you ever strike up a friendship with an Irishman, you do inform yourself of the situation to avoid at the very least embarrasment. In short look at the stuff in the news about Palestine/Israel for an idea of the heated emotions related to this area.

Well, one difficulty of GOTM is it is easy to not notice announcement of a new patch. Can't use for GOTM 17, but looks like a good patch for MP.

Unfortunately first review from SP shows only 1 out of 4 major issues addressed. I had hoped Firaxis was delaying release of patch to PTW in order to get fixes for both SP and MP issues.

Disappointing to not get sufficient response to SP issues.

MAJOR SP issues:

1. F3 refresh speed,
YES--addressed.

2. Numbers updated on right side of F8 screen when switch to "culture",
NOT addressed-- we should see culture numbers and not score numbers.

3. Numbes updated on right side of F8 screen
when switch to "power",
NOT addressed-- we should see power numbers and not score numbers.

4. Ability to migrate preferences
NOT addressed-- when there is a version patch, users should have th option of migrating preferences from previous versions.

5. Ability to toggle grid coordinates
NOT addressed-- needed for A) easier discussion of SP's talking about location of huts/luxuries/bugs with a commonly played game, i.e. GOTM, etc.

6. Y-axis scroll bug
NOT addressed-- If preference Y-scrolling yes, then A) refresh after worker completes action is delayed until worker moves and B) city label is missing for most cities at poles.

I may have missed a few SP bugs that were not addressed, but these stand out like a bleeding thumb.

Unannounced changes in PTW 1.21:
Continous bombard works when adjacent to enemy units, at least with naval units bombarding adjacent enemy ground units.

I have noticed the AI taking artillery out of cities to bombard naval units, something I had not seen before.

Yes, to delete the patch, simply double click the patch and it'll start uninstalling. Also, even 56k modems run fine with PTW. Warpstorm and I should know, mine went through rigorous testing. ;)

I bet you have a U.S. robotics modem, they are the best. My first modem was a cheap one, without all the needed electronics, so it use my cpu power to work. My FPS game was lagy and i froze sometime.

But with a U.S. robotics 56 k modem, my FPS game work great ( ping around or below 200 ms ).

So if you have no choice but using 56 k like me, buy a U.S. robotics modem, they worth the price.

I'm not sure what I have. It came with the computer that I bought from someone at college. :) (which I rarely do, but it was such a great deal - new printer, 56k modem, better than my origanal computer).

But, I had a USRobotics 33.6k once.

I am also really curious why game companies find internationalisation of their products so difficult.

I don't understand why there are separate versions of games... surely they just need to put all text strings in a separate datafile with a unique ID, and reference them by ID. Then you can make a Babylonian version just by translating the datafile.

Only one patch would be required, and the international distributors just need to translate any new strings added to the datafile.

A few posts above mention that "different copy protection" is a reason that there are separate US & European English versions. Does anyone have any more information on this?

Any other suggestions as to why international patches are always so far behind the country of origin?

Thanks

I WANT MY UK PATCH PLEASE INFOGRAMES!!!

Do they realise the problems this is causing with PBEM and other multiplayer games?

So hold off on PBEM and other mp games with US players 'till Infogrames releases the patch for the rest of the world. ;)

Go to Control Panel --> Add/Remove programs. There's a long list of programs to uninstall. 1.21 is installed sepearte to PTW so uninstall it. Then download 1.14 again and install it. Any game that has been opened it 1.21 cannot be opened in 1.14, remember tat.

thanks! but ill wait untill i finish my single player games until i go back to 1.14, and i know the day i do go back, 1.21 will come out in europe!

Good to see the problem resolved :)

Hey all,

So my PTW finally arrived in not-so-sunny Cape Town, South Africa - I'm thinking that maybe it brought some typically english weather with it. Eagerly I rip of the shrink wrap, and set about reading etc. I download 1.14, then read about 1.21. Ruubbing my hands in glee, esp since I have only 56 K modem connection, I wonder to my self - Hmmm ... I assume I have UK version, but how do I know ?

Anyone ??
