Civ3 PTW Patch v1.21f Released!

at the same time not making it universal, but country specific.....

Firaxis has no say over this. I believe that they aren't allowed to work on the non-US versions. Would you rather that Firaxis gave the patch to Infogrames and then let Infogrames release a simultaneous patch in a few weeks (months)?

This is fixed. I just tried it.
That is good to know :)

IT was not in the list of fixes though. :hmm:

I would have tested for it myself but I can't use the current version...

btw, how could Firaxis not have made the non-US patch?

It is the same code is it not?

Nope the copy protection is different for one thing. They design it and release it for the PTW version they created. Then they give it to infrogames to send out to their localization offices in various countries to make the necesarry changes for what ever that localization office decided to the original PTW discs before releasing them.

For those talking of lag.

I think the performance of PTW 1.21f on the issue of lag is brilliant and a VAST improvement on 1.14f. An indication of this is that I am playing now NON-BETATESTER PTW games :) (over 10 hours in the last 24 hours :) )

The main problem at the moment is dunces with 1.14f joining games entitled 1.21f and causing problems with the hosting. Hopefully word will get around soon to these FRENCH and GERMANS ;)

Hi everyone ,
Hope you don't mind if I post here rather than in the newbie thread , seems more topical .
I recently bought Civ III (Thai Version) and it "took" the latest patch .
I have just bought PTW ; again Thai Version and am wondering if I should try the latest patch .
Please understand that I am not particularly computer literate . If the patch is not compatible can I simply delete it ?
Due to poor connection speed here I will probably never be able to participate in multiplayer , I simply enjoy the game so much that I want to play the new version .
Also , once PTW is installed , can I play both Civ III and PTW by changing disks ?
I appreciate that most of these questions have probably been addressed elsewhere , it simply takes me hours to work my way through all this information .
Your time and assistance appreciated .

Yes, to delete the patch, simply double click the patch and it'll start uninstalling. Also, even 56k modems run fine with PTW. Warpstorm and I should know, mine went through rigorous testing. ;)

1.21 will only be compatible with the US version so far.

Not sure about deleting it, maybe you could.

To play PTW, you need Civ III and PTW but only the PTW disk to play PTW.

Does anyone have any idea when the European version of 1.21 will be out as I don't want to hold up all my PBEM's. It would be helpful if anyone had any ideas.

I find it interesting that Firaxis were willing to correct a mistake on the Spanish city list, yet so far have refused to correct any of the heaps of mistakes on the city and great leader lists of other civs.

They were all deliberate :p

Yeah. Someone should explain to Firaxis that "The Mumbles" is not an English city but a tiny (less than two square km/one square mile) section of York. It's like having "Times Square" on the American city list.

If Firaxis had wanted to be cute with English city names, they could have used real English towns and villages like Snitterfield (Shakespere's father was born there, if Daddy hadn't moved, the Bard of Avon would have been the Bard of Snitterfield), Middle Wallop, or Great Snoring.

Patch works perfectly for my version (bought in Norway)...

YNCS: Yes, and they could have fixed the German names (Munich -> München is an great example), and Viking (Helsinki???, Batsfjord???... argh!)

You know, the Vikings founded Jorvik, which today is York.. Thus York shouldn't be on the English list, but on the Viking list as Jorvik... sigh!

All I've got to say about the city lists is BFD. If it really bothers you change them. It's easy to do and take next to no time.

well, the uninstall doesnt restore u to what u had before. I tried installing it just on the slim offchance it might work with the UK version but after i uninstalled it still asked for the CD.

Of course one can change the names after ones liking, but the names should have been proper in the first place...

Anyway I haven't installed it yet. Waiting to finish my total war game (me against everyone else.. :D

New patch; it's about time. ;)

A bloody shame they didn't let Hotseat/PBEM players see which units moved around them! A Firaxian even spoke about wanting to add that in a previous chat!

I think it's quite imperative!

And most unfortunate: why should the Europeans have to wait? It really isn't that much trouble making the patch for EU/UK/Germany/etc.

And I myself can't even play an internet game other than PBEM! I can through LAN, but not through the internet (cable), even without firewall! I doubt they helped me on that part. :(

In short: I'm not very positive. Firaxis chose a very wrong producer. :undecide:

True, but then New York would be an English City. I suppose it's just how they decided to divide it up. IMO, it's not really a big deal: it doesn't actually change gameplay.

I have to agree- alot of folks are complaining about MOO3, designed by quicksilver... and produced by?? Our favorite producing company- Infogrames.

I don't know, guys. I don't think I'm going to buy another Infogrames product until it is one year old and been patched numerous times.

Of course, designing games is a tricky business- but all the more for them to at least put a decent product on the shelves instead of relying on the players to mod the game to be what it should be. Just my .02 cents, a pence or whatever.
