Hi All.

I recently got a new machine.

AMD 6000+
4gb RAM
8600GT GPU
500gb HDD

However when I installed Civ3, and started a game, the turns take about 1 minute maybe more to process. Now I know this can be the case on a large map at the end of the game when all the civilizations are developed etc, but this is the very start of the game, where everyone only has one city plus maybe a worker????

My old machine ran this fine?

Any ideas? Does it have to do with Vista Home Premium 64bit??

Thanks

Welcome to CFC Stildawn!

Someone else had similar problems with their 64-bit version a while back, and resolved the issue by setting Civ3 to work in Windows XP compatability mode. You can find it here.

Basically older games made for 32-bit systems don't work so well on new 64-bit OS'es, its a compatability thing that has to do with memory addressing. In computer terms, Civ3 is old - Civ3 was released 2001, PTW in 2002, and Conquests in 2003.

Sadly before I even played the game I set it to run in XP SP1 mode, as I do this with all my games now. Ill try update to 1.22 to see if that makes it better, Im play conquests if that makes any difference.

Ok ive done the update and no effect.

Ive noticed one other thing, but I dont know how this could be effecting it. In the advisors screen quite a bit of the text is a funky purple colour and kinda of distorted which it wasnt that colour etc on my old machine, maybe theres a conflict somewhere regarding this thats making it run slow??

Cheers

Anyone else have any ideas? Or experienced something similar?

What I have noticed is that 8/10 times I start civ3 windows comes up with a message saying "adobe distiller has stopped working"

Might this relate to it?

Cheers
