I've upgraded Civ III to 1.29b2 and now Civ3Edit fails to work. Is there a remedy?

Hello, welcome to MacCFC :wavey:

No. Civ3Edit only works with version 1.21g. Sorry.

Are there any Mac utility programs to use with Civ 3? Also, can you use a combination of Virtual PC and a PC utility program?

My sig contains links to the ones I've been involved with. I can't recall any others that are MacOS native. Virtual PC will work for some of the Windows utilities. I think Dianthus has a version of his CivReplay utility that will run with it, though the mainstream version requires OpenGL support which I believe is missing in VPC.
The Windows editor will run in VPC, I guess, though I assume you would need teh Windows version of Cvi3 as well.

Hello,

Know if there is any way to download the whole game, Civ III for Mac?
This is my first post, how do you all personalize your post?

Nope, there is no way to d/l Civ3 for mac online through a purchase program. You can order it through Amazon.com and other online gaming stores.

Then do you know of where I can find sources to any of the PC utilities or the file format specs and such, so that I can code my own?

File format specs - Gramphos, on the Apolyton site, is one of the best sources. He has a published spec for the .BIC file (the scenario info), which is also embedded in the .SAV file. There are text and Excel tabulations over there. The rest of the .SAV contains dynamic game info, and data on that is harder to come by as it makes cheating easier.

PC utilities - PM Dianthus who makes the best ones.

The JMapstat link in my sig includes Java source code for expansion of compressed .SAV files, and extraction of some parameters for domination limit checking

I have a Cocoa implementation of a .SAV file parser using published and unpublished info. It can extract a lot of data from the file, but I haven't wrapped it up in anything useful yet. When I was co-opted onto the GOTM staff I needed to produce a specialised PHP version to process GOTM submissions on the fly, and I haven't got back to the Cocoa version yet. It was my intention to bundle this up in a library that could be used by others to roll their own apps.

If you use civ3 edit in 1.21 will the map work in 1.29?

Where would one find this 1.21g patch? They only have the 1.29 one at the civ 3 site.

Eureka! Nevermind, I've found it through the Macsoft site. I can't find a description of the updates, though. I'm on dial-up, so I need to wait until later tonigh to download. Anyone want to tell me what it fixes?

I really just want to know if I can make specific civs start out in specific places using civEdit.

Also, I've been tooling around with my own scenarios, but I can't get them to load. It always crashes after, and says something about not enough memory. When I try to change the 'preferred size' in the 'get info' pop-up, there is no memory section like other applications. In it's place is a 'language' section, and once it changed to 'something about indexing' section.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry, you will not be able to do this w/ the 1.21g version of CivEdit. We need the 1.29f version of the editor, but it is very unlikely we'll ever get it.

BLAST!

Anyone know of a scenario using the huge earth map that already has the first cities in proper places?

Look and ask here. Make sure its for Civ3 (1.29f), not PTW or C3C.
