Not sure if this question should be asked here or elsewhere, but what are the prospects of a GOTM for Civ4 ?
I suppose it means starting from scratch again for everybody : no Jason Score, no strategy tips, no customised maps, ...
Would be fun, though.

On a more general note : are there any ideas on how the forums would be set up for Civ4 ? Same structure as for Civ3 ?

I vote same structure for Civ III, just add on to this Civ IV sub forum.

Civ4 will most likely have a new scoring system and so will civ4 gotm as soon as they invent a fair scoring system.

I sense problems for GOTM. I read a review at Game Shark that said game rules could be changed using XML during the game with no reloading needed. While this feature would be welcome by modmakers trying to balance things, it would be harder to stop cheaters (not saying that many GOTM'ers cheat). It would be nice if Firaxis could put in an option locking in the starting rules.

I hope the save file can be examined to see if it has been tampered with.

I'm sure the good folks in charge of the GOTM will come up with something fair for everyone (they have in the past).

Sincerely seconded. :scan:

I do look forward to what the IV-GOTM will have in store when it does start. For what it's worth, a beta version of the IV-HOF will be open for business the day the game is released.

There are a zillion ways to cheat in Civ3 without reloading, the easiest being playing the game on two computers. In the end it still comes down to trust or lack thereof. Strangely, nobody considered cheating a problem when we were just playing Civ2 comparison games. It only became a problem after tools were developed to analyse savegames. A huge waste of time and effort, IMHO.

There's ways to detect that one.

Certainly. You just need to stand behind that person when it's happening.
