1.09 patch

Will T2 or Firaxis fix this memory problem? Why is the game taking up a half a gig of memory? This is rediculous. At about 560 MB it causes the game to CTD. I have taken measures posted throughout the site with little success. The game is slow, it crashes, and it is annoying. I would like this issue to be addressed asap, as I know others do as well.

I applied Harkonen's patch and it did work for about two hours. Then I got a CTD again. This is a fundamental issue in Civ4 and Take2 and Firaxis needs to do something asap. I feel like I was burned with all the bugs in Axis & Allies, and now my favorite game in my collection is making similarly buggy software. It should not be the reponsibility of the gamers to patch a game that costs the cosumers almost $50. If they want that kind of support they should have made it a freeware game. I realize Microsoft has gotten away with this kind of development deficiancies for years, but that's no excuse.

How much virtual memeory are you allowing your system to access?

Yeah I have a Gig in mem, 3.1 Pent and a All in Wonder ATI 9600 card and it works ok until I progress in the game.
Soon after I enter the modern age, my screen starts to white flash with data when I move the mouse around and it really slows down......
I have updated all my ATI software and my computer exceeds even the recommended requirements to run this game....
Now I have a game that is fun until the modern age when it really slows down, and eventually just stops...... It this just me? I assume the next patch will try to attempt to solve this issue(s).

I get this too. Really spoils what might be a great game. I seem to remember I had similar probs with Civ3.

I totally Agree!! Finally someone besides me is expressing their feelings in this manner! I am glad that other gamers in the community are working on making their own patches, but what has been released to us has buggy code not just for some, but most if not all. I do not believe I have met anyone who has not reported some issue, problem, or deficiency in this game-whether it be with graphics, intro movies, wonders, the memory slowdowns, or anything else under the sun. I am starting to wonder if a recall will be issued, because as far as I am concerned, this violates consumer product quality laws. I've been a follower of this company for a long time, I have enjoyed their games and bought their products, but regardless of how this all works out, they have lost a future customer. Don't dismiss me as a person who looks at the world pessimistically or not a true "Civ fan" - I am just not going to try to reason out and cover for the companies mistake on releasing this shoddy product to market. In the end it was all about money, and they got it from me.
