Celsius regularly returns negative temperatures in Winter, and while it happens in Fahrenheit, it is necessarily less common. (By the way regularly getting below 40 degrees is quite darn cold. So while this happens in some places, it is certainly not the modal or mean winter temperature.)

Above quotation already proves that Celsius is a much better and easier to underständ system. All I have to hear in the radio is that we expect "minus x degrees" and I will know that I have to be careful not to hit icy roads and bridges. Even on a thermometer I just have to read that there is a minus or that is is in the blue area.
What is 0° C? 32° F?
So, with Fahrenheit I have to understand the 32. I will have to read the numbers, if I look at a thermometer.

And about your example with miles and inches.... can you estimate your 1000 paces by a brief look of your eyes? No, you can't. Sure, I can't estimate 1000 mtrs either, but that only makes both measurements comparable in regards to not being very handy if you do not use any sort of instrument. But for the metric system, it is much easier to do the scaling, because you just have to multiply by 10 or to divide.

As an American I surely do get tired of some of you residents of near 3rd world countries bashing on us all the time. Jealous?
Especially your cars, your home equipment, your roads, your houses and your transmission lines prove that you are really living in the first world :D

The sort of automatic gearboxes I experienced in the US you will only find in the German Museum (technical museum) over here.
The typical kitchen equipment you find in american houses was outdated in the mid-sixties over here already.
Living in the countrysides of my area I have to state that our roads are much better than what I experienced in the US. Even our cast tracks are generally better paved.
Typically, our houses withstand storms.

Yep, in comparison to the US we are really living in the third world.... :D

I can wait. I just got Civ IV, and I'm having fun playing it right now. :)

Mr. Farenheit took his body temperature as 100 (he probably had a fever) and the lowest temperature he could measure as 0.

If the lowest temperature he could find was zero, he never tried coming here. We can get -50 Farenheit or sometimes even -60.

Zero Farenheit is -18 Celcius. Heck, where i'm from, the average minimum in January is -19. This means that in January, on average, every night temperature goes down below zero Farenheit. I'm not talking about extremes here. I'm talking about the average value.

Zero Farenheit is worthless. Zero Celcius, however, tells a lot, and is extremely useful. Basically, above zero it rains, and below zero it snows. That's a huge difference!

He might come from Quebec canada

I do and its like he said! an average of -10 ~ -20 C is quite normal here during winter!

Celcius for exterior temperature is better ....... but for cooking Farenheit wins it.

http://dstore.com.au/?cat=PC_Games&action=view&id=798559

i think i will be getting the icewind dale compilation seeing as warlords is going to be a complete waste of money & for $29 I cannot really go wrong can I?.

however the date for warlords on dstore is 28/7/06... not 21/06/06
http://dstore.com.au/?cat=Games&action=view&id=800954

You're playing Civ while on honeymoon??! And there I thought ppl have other things on their minds right then, like producing one or more pop points that keep them from civving :p

I think it's interesting you say "just need to have a good feel for whatever system you use." My larger point is this, imperial/US whatever, is based off of ours (humanity's) development of weights and measures, an inch was the measurement of the tip of the thumb (can you imagine an easier basis to measure something out by?), sure there were inaccuracies, but it is a human system. The mile, is 1000 paces. In terms of getting "a good feel" for whatever system you use my point is this, it is easier and more normal to get a good feel for the Imperial system, because if we had to start back from 4000 BC, it's probably very similar to the system we'd come up with again.

What I meant was that I think it's very easy to get a good feel for any system, as long as you grow up with it. Sure, the english system may be a little bit more intuitive if an inch is the tip of a thumb and a mile is 1000 paces. But I don't think this matters very much. You first learn these units as a kid, when your thumb's tip is not an inch and when you need more than 1000 paces to walk a mile. I never knew that a mile was 1000 paces, but I still have a good feel for how far it is because I grew up using it. And I'm sure people from more forward-looking countries easily managed to get a good feel for how far a kilometer is.

If you search cdwow, com they have it for 16.75 i think. If you log in and predict a world cup score correctly they send you a £2 voucher. Thats £14.75ish!!

Every day i keep finding them cheaper ;)

As for guessing scores right. I have a strategy. Predict every game 1-0 to most likley team. The odds are in my favour.

I would of bought from Game as i have £2.50 of points and they are offering £5 off a 30 spend at mo but i cant find another game i want. Postage rates are a pain.

As for dates dd/mm/yyyy. say no more.

I will get back to you if i find it cheaper ;)

A £2 voucher isn't the same as £2 off. You have to buy from them again if you use a voucher, and you have to remember to use it before it expires.

I would like to point out that England is (mostly) a metric country. While the system is English, the Engish no longer (fully) use it.

We still use miles and gallons, but things must be sold by the kilogram/litre/metre.

Anything even remotely scientific is done using SI units, and SI units are what must be, by law, taught in schools.

14th June 2006. Alot better than June 14th 2006.

You dont need to buy anything to get the free £2 voucher. Just guess the scoreline :)

Im not worried the voucher will run out as i will use it to buy warlords. Just gotta guess the score first. I have a month to do that :)

My strategy has paid early results. Predicted 1-0 germany poland last night.

hmmm £14.75 for warlords :D :D :D :D :D Sweet

I've got mine ordered

Just ordered mine at cdwow for £14.75 Lowest price in uk i hope.

Can always cancel order if it goes cheaper and i trust site ;)
