Civ5 compatibility between Europe and USA ?

Hi everyone, this is my first post here, because for the first time, I didn't find the answer I was looking for... Maybe I chose bad search keywords, anyway...

I'm in Europe, with Civ5 bought in Europe, and I'm going to live in Canada for a year. I know the game will work fine if my Steam is in off-line mode, but I was wondering if the patchs and all this Steam stuff will work on the other side of the ocean. Also, if an add-on is released and I buy a N.Am. version, will it be compatible ?

Technically there are not different versions, they are all the same. As long as Firaxis doesn't mess anything up, steam also shouldn't do it (purely speaking theoretically).
