CivAssist II

CivAssist II 30-Oct-2016

Just started using this awesome tool, and have a couple of questions (though I'm sure they are somewhere in the utility or elsewhere on this forum).

1) This only works with v. 1 of .NET, right?

2) Is there a way to refresh the world map to update the situation during a turn. It seems that I can't refresh combat calculations or locations on the world map view.

2. If you save the game, then load the saved file in CAII, it should give you the current World Map View. :)

Can someone explain the Domination Limit to me? I'll use an example from a real game I am playing.

In Civ itself the Victory Status Screen shows that to win a Domination Victory you need 66% of the world area and world population. (Are both required for a domination win?) I currently have 20% of the world area and 30% of the world population.

Now let's go to CivAssist II. Here is what the data shows:

Domination Limit: 1768
Tiles Owned: 563
Domination Tiles: 536
Tiles To Limit: 1232
Unclaimed Tiles: 96
Citizens Limit: 276 30.2%

What do the fields from CivAssist mean? They don't seem to be explained in the reference materials. How do those 563 tiles I own relate to the 20% of the world area I have?

Yes, I believe both Pop & Tiles are required for a DL Victory to occur. (Usually, if you control the tiles, you'll have over 66% of the World's population.)

I use CRpMapStat for my Dom Limit, so I'm not 100% on CAII, although I use it for other information.

Did you know that Sea tiles do not count towards the Dom Limit?

That may be the difference in the numbers. (Viz. You control some Sea tiles, but they are not counted towards the DL.) You cannot control Ocean tiles, so they are N/A.

Perhaps the 96 unclaimed tiles are tiles you can see (viz. not in the "Fog Of War") but don't control? :)

P.s. If you don't get a sufficient answer soon, upload a .SAV file of your game and we should be able to provide comprehensive answers.

I'm thinking that part of the problem is that I don't know what the actual phrase Domination Limit means. This particular map has 12,800 tiles, with the ratio from what I've explored being about 3 water to 1 land tile. Maybe that has something to do with it. If I assume that only about 25% of the map is land, that would be ~3200 land tiles. 66% of that would be 2112, which is a little closer to the 1768 Domination Limit showing. This would also account for Civ saying I have 20% of the world area, as it would only be counting land area. Is the Domination Limit the total number of land tiles I have to control to get the victory?

Ok, so that means then that if I need 1768 to win then there must be 2678 land and coast tiles out of the 12,800 (~21%), correct? :) I think the math may be starting to make sense. Bottom line: I only need to worry about that 1768 number. That's my target for victory.

Could someone clarify for me how to read the Food and Shield columns on the Territory View? Some of them have ranges, some have single numbers, some are blank, some are in red, some are in white. What do these numbers mean?

There is a very helpful online help that will explain most of these things. :)

There is a very helpful online help that will explain most of these things. :)

That's what I'm using as a reference, but it doesn't explain things in a way that I can understand them. For example, here's what it says about the area in question:

'The bottom section gives you detailed information on a city-by-city basis. The city size is shown, along with the number of tiles worked. The columns on the right-hand-size give you an indication of how much food, how many shields or trade you are losing because you don't have improved tiles. List View also displays corruption and waste.'

What does that mean?

Using real game examples, these are some numbers that I see in the Food column, with Calculate Corruption unchecked:

0...3
4
-1...2

Similar data exists in the Shields column. If this is potential Waste, how can one city have 0...3 and another -1...2? Wouldn't 'Waste', by game mechanics, all be positive or negative, not a combination? I just don't understand what these numbers are telling me.

I am running Windows XP and whenever I start running the program this message appears:

An unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will be shut down immediately.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

These are the details:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

I like to display those cities that are wasting food (because of "No Aqueduct/Hospital") .......on my "Show Alerts" listing.

The only problem is that any city of size 12 or more shows as wasting food when the Food Box is Full, even when it has a Hospital!

How can cities with Hospitals be eliminated from the list? :)

did anyone ever come up with a solution regarding the vista issue? i finally am trying out vista on my desktop machine, and cannot get CA2 to run. I was able to install .net 1.1, the patch, and even an extra windows update. but no where along the process could i get CA2 to work. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling both CA2 and the framework stuff a couple times. no combinations have worked. i have also tried to have CA2 run in compatibility mode. i am a fairly savvy computer user but just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing anything. i read the last several pages of this thread with all the vista related posts. since it hadn't come up in a while, just wanted to see if it was solved or not.

thanks in advance.

I PM'd ainwood and he said that he doesn't use Vista so he didn't have much to offer. This is hugely frustrating for many of us, so I hope someone could provide a very thorough step-by-step on how to get CAII running on a Vista machine. There are many of us, as described by dobbles, as being fairly computer literate, who have tried multiple re-installs, etc. with no success. Yet there appear to be several who are successfully running CAII with Vista. Can anyone please help? Eventually, we're all going to migrate to Vista, so might as well get the fix figured out for the future.

As I said in an earlier post, I've reverted to using my outdated XP machine simply so I can still use CAII. I can empathize with dobbles - you get a new kick*ss machine and you can't even use it for your favourite game. Now that sucks.

yeah i hear ya donny.

though dont get all teary eyed for me. i decided to put it on a machine thats fairly new just to try it out. i had vista at work when it first launched, and hated it. had avoided using it at home because of it. trying to give it a 2nd chance. i have mostly played civ on my laptop which is still nice and stable with XP. though i would like to gradually upgrade to vista. but if there are issues with things such as this, it might not happen. i am still able to civ away like before, but would love to do it in vista. civ assist is such an integral part of that. its a pity.

Here is my properties from the CA2 shortcut that I use in Vista (see attached CA2 properties screen print). Also, note that there is an update to .NET (see attached screen print of my programs and features window) - I got it via the Windows Update feature of Vista. Occassionally, CA2 goes crazy on me on me during a game. I simply quit CA2 and restart it. The key is compatibility mode with XP, service pack 2, and running with admin privs. I've been running Vista for over a year with only minor problems running Civ3, CivAssist2, etc.

thanks very much for this information! it did not seem to help though. i did have the correct .net stuff installed. and i tried your combination of settings but that didn't seem to have an effect. but definitely info like this is appreciated!

Disabling the User Account Control works for me. This was suggested 6 pages back.

(Actually my main civ machine uses XP and that is the way it will stay as I really don't get on with Vista. My only civ use for my vista machines is for mapfinder atm!)
