There's actually already a combat calculater in CAII. Go to the map utility and make the units visible under the right mouse click. Then you can select a visible unit and you can do the combat calculator, again on the right click context menu. Normally it's there, but with units invisible it's greyed out.

HTH.

Wow...thanks :D

Did civassist ask if you wanted to e-mail the save file? If not, then you probably have an old version - make sure you have the latest, as we fixed a lot of bugs related to these sorts of things.
I have installed the new version and I still can't use it.

It is strange. CivAssist II worked perfectly after I first installed it. I had to sometimes try to save two times 'cause the first time usually blocked, but everything else was fine. Suddenly I started having problems. I uninstall and re-install the new version and... still the same type of error. I don't know what could have caused it. I have not done any changes of software or re-install civ or anything like that.

When I start Civassist it gives an error ("Index was outside the bounds of the array") and when I press "continue" CivAssist is active but not working. Meanwhile the taskbar goes missing (invisible) but I can keep using the PC and play Civ like always. Well, the PC gets a lot slower after that.

After I reboot, everything is fine. Just one more thing: it does not advice me to email or anything like that. Or at least I haven't seen it.

What game version are you playing? If its a previous patch version, then it might not work (especially C3C - make sure you're at v1.22f).
I have C3C v1.22... I believe this to be the latest patch.

Downloaded it. Used it just great. Saved me hours.
Great utility!

Hello, just wanted to let you know that I de-installed and re-installed CI2 and now it seems it is working! I dont know what that means in terms of conflict, but at least it means that I can try your fine program now -- thank you!

Excellent! I posted about your problem on a .Net programming forum, and didn't receive any replies - glad its solved. :)

ainwood - great job on a great program! I especially like the city planning option you incorporated. One question though - where is the data saved for planning cities? I move some of my games between machines and would love to run civassist on both. But if I do, I lose my planning information. Is there a file I can move as well to preserve this information?

Thanks!

First of all, let me say that this program is absolutely great. It has rekindled my desire to play Civ over doing most other things (considering that most other things are much more "productive" than Civ, I am not sure how good that is for me personally, but whatever). It makes advancing to higher difficulty levels not easier, but less tedious. So thank you for making it!!!

Despite having used the program for quite a while, I am still discovering new features that continue to amaze me. One of them is the ability to make a dotmap without all the effort of before. Anyways, for some reason, I am not having a lot of luck with the world map feature. As the picture below demonstrates, a lot of the terrain is just showing up as white nothingness. I am using modified graphics for my terrain, but some of it shows up, as well as the cities, irrigation, and roads, which all are modified as well. Any ideas on what might be going wrong here?

Edit: For the record, I have already tried de-installing and re-installing CivAssist.

@Madviking:
The instructions for the archive are in the online help. Once you have an archive, then when you are playing it back, then you can generate the map by right-clicking on the minimap in the map-view -> check out the export options.

@Yaype: Open the 'options' screen once you've loaded a save and changed to the world map view. There should be a debug tab visible that lists all graphics files that it looked for and couldn't find. Make sure you have the files in teh right place, and it <should> fix itself.

I can't get this to work :(

Should the debug tag be next to the "About" and "Options" tabs once you click the options button at the bottom left of the main program? Only those two tabs show up for me, and I am unable to find another place where there might be a debug tag.

Looking over the map, I have come to the conclusion that only the following terrain types are affected: grassland, tundra, volcanoes, coast, and sea (as well as squares of other types that are bordered by those four terrain types). Considering that all of my terrain is modified, it is odd that only those five are affected. Hopefully, this information helps a bit.

Thanks again for putting so much time and effort into this!

I can't be completely sure about that tab - I'll have to check later. Maybe if you set the 'install path over-ride' as the standard civ install directory then you might get it to appear.

Have you over-written the default terrain with the replacement, or is this loaded via scenario? Maybe its a slightly different .pcx format. :hmm:

Yes, this is my default terrain now--it is not part of a scenario. I've seen other people using CivAssist with modded terrain, so it is hard for me to understand why it is weird with mine, especially considering that it is only certain terrain types. I will try what you mentioned about the install path over-ride.

Edit: Assuming that you meant install CivAssist in the Civ directory, it did not work. If I misunderstood what you meant by over-riding the install path, please correct me. If not, well, I may have to redo my terrain--I like CivAssist that much.

If you go into the CivAssist 'options' screen, there is an option for "Civilization install path over-ride". If you set this to be the path to your actual civilization3 installation folder, then this might then activate the tab to give you a list of missing folders.

Alternatively, if you could e-mail a copy of one of the graphics files that doesn't load correctly to civassist@gotm.civfanatics.net, we can have a look and see if its a different pcx format.

  6. Fixed maintenance per turn costs.
  7. Improved city planning to allow place city in the immediate neighborhood of rival cities
