CivAssist II

CivAssist II 30-Oct-2016

Hi there,

Just picked the game back up but don't want to play without CA2. Downloaded it again and when I open it it gives me this message: An unhandled exception has occurred in your application....

Access to the registry key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CivAssist is denied. Clicking on details gives:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

So I did a bit of searching around the site and came accross this:

click Start
click Run
type regedit
on the left pane, open: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PerfProc\Performance

Disable Performance Counter will appear on right side.
right click it
select Modify
set value to 0.

But that didn't work because "Disable performance counter" didn't appear at all so I couldn't change it. I'm about to give up completely - can anyone talk me through what to do?

Thanks

Just downloaded and installed that .Net framework and it's done bugger all. Still giving me the same error message when I try to open CAII :(

try uninstalling CA2, because I think you may need .Net installed before installing CA2. If you still get the error, try that reg hack I posted.

Yeah, I'm the admin of my machine. Haven't done the reg hack but I've ran into another problem....................

When I left clicked on the desktop item for CAII then go to properties it gives me a different set of properties than if I left click on the CAII icon if I left click and go to properties in C/program files/firaxis games etc... So I went to "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and changed it to Windows XP (service pack 2) and changed clicked the box that said run this program as administrator too.

Now CAII works fine, which is wonderful!!! Cheers for your help. BUT, now the bloody game just won't work properly. Tried running it as administrator, with CAII open, without CAII open and it just won't work properly. It does sometimes start up and play the opening movie thing but I can't click on the screen to skip it and every time I try that a box comes up saying do u want to wait for this program to respond or close it? And it just does bugger all!

:'(

Go back to post #968 and read forward. Sounds like someone else had the exact same problem as you. I'm pretty sure the solution is buried there.

Oh my god. I think I have sorted it. Thank you so much for your help - i'd buy you a drink if you weren't all the way over in wisconsin ;) if u ever come to bristol tho................

Ha, got another problem with CAII... Everything works fine except where it says "there is a polluted tile in our territory #1" or "Carthage is working unimproved tiles". When I was playing this on XP (now using Vista) it would minimise CAII and take you to the problem/city. Now though, it does nothing except strike through the city/number (#1,#2,#3 etc). I'm currently playing a game with 83 cities and 1747 tiles so it becomes really difficult to spot all the polluted tiles/find the right city. And I know you can go to 'map' then 'locate city' or whatever it is and find the city that way but I'd prefer to be able to just click on the CAII screen! Thanks for reading, bit of a long one...

Are you running C3C and CAII as admin? IOW are the saves in the program files x86 folder? I cannot speak to Vista, but as long as I do not forget to do that, I can use the goto function, in Win7.

@Knickers: As an aside, the utility program CRpMapStat has a feature whereby you can go directly to a city that is polluted, increased/decreased in size, cultural borders set to expand, etc. (I have both it and CAII running when I play.) :)
