CivAssist question: deciphering resource table entries

I've used CivAssist to determine who has a strategic resource--namely, oil--that I don't have. From what I see, a few other civs do have it, but I find the entries in the appropriate column puzzling. In the cases where those other powers have oil, the entires read something like this: (?) 1 I've also seen entries like (1+?) 1.

Not sure how to decipher these, since the help option is obscure (OK, I haven't found it but I haven't looked all that hard). Any advice, please? Thanks.

Not sure myself, it's been a while since I've used it.

I'm re-installing Civ on my new computer tonight; when I do, I'll d/l CivAssistII and take a look for you, though there's a fair chance someone will have replied with a definitive answer by then.

In looking at one of my older CivAssist files, here's what I think is going on:

You should get a "(1+?) #" if:

1. the civ has at least one of the resource hooked up to its capital, either by normal means or via trade, and

2. You have the resource hooked up as well.

The # is how many they actually have in their territorial borders (whether hooked up or not).

Basically, it means that they have it (in other words, you can't trade it to them).

If you see a (?) #, that means that they don't yet have the tech available to know if they have it or not. (You can't trade it to them, because they don't know it exists.) The # again shows how many are in their territorial borders, whether hooked up or not.

It's entirely possible that I'm wrong about this, but this looks like what's going on.

Also, while checking this I discovered something cool there: you can right click on one of those lines, then "show on map", to see the exact location of each and every one of those resources in their borders (whether hooked up or not).

Thanks for this elucidation, especially the right click tip. That was particularly what I was looking for. I'll let you know how I fared with trying that out.

LATER: according to the resource table under Miscellaneous, the Indians have two oil, of which I can see one, while the Aztecs, Persians, and English have one each. I'll be darned if I can see any of the latter three. I'll post a save and a CivAssist screen shot below so you can see what I mean--and perhaps provide some insight (or even sight) as to how and what I'm missing.

LATER STILL: stand down; figured out how to show what I've been trying to find.

I read on the forums here that you can easily miss a resource if a city is built on top of it. There's a command to show the map without the cities to see it better.
