CivBE and Mantle

Hey,

I had already been asking around about it some time ago but back then nobody was able to give me any good answer. Neither was I able to find it out by myself. So, I predownloaded the game and when I want to start it, It offers me two valid options:
- play SM CIV:BE
- CIV:BE (AMD Mantle)

When the game was first announced, it was said that it will support Mantle on Radeon 7XXX processors and above, but then it was being said only Radeons R9+ will be able to support it. I have a 7850 and I seem to be able to use Mantle. Or maybe it's just because everything is still encrypted and the game doesn't know that it should deny me this option, like with touchscreen support for Civ5?

Could someone shed some light on that? Are people with nV GPUs also able to go with the Mantle option?

7850 supports mantle so it should work.

I also saw the Mantle option, and I have a GeForce GTX 760. Don't think I'll actually be able to use the option once the game unlocks.

It's not likely that we'll see any great new visual breakthroughs in a game of this nature and tbh it's more likely to be used as a "benchmarketing" exercise just like Civ 5's "late game benchmark" was.

Obligatory wikipedia link. In short, it's a new API from AMD that is supposed to remove some bottleneck situations where your graphics card is waiting for your CPU to act, improving overall performance.

In other words: fancy, very new AMD tech that is supposed to make things go faster if you're using recent AMD hardware. Whether it works or not... you just got to try.
