CivBe Tech Web

It looks like there's a bug when moving a non-dominant Affinity to dominant. Say, you go Purity 6 and then go to Supremacy 7 ... it's counting all the Supremacy as if it were dominant the whole time on that last click, instead of just the last (portion of) level 7. This jumps you ahead on that newly-dominant Affinity.

I'll get that fixed, just wanted to say something before anyone gets any ideas about Affinity slingshots that don't exist ;)

This won't be a common thing in-game (since it's a bad idea most of the time to choose Purity 6 and Supremacy 7 over say, Purity 10 or Supremacy 10. The most "wide" Affinity that looks useful to me (at least until you max out one as far as you want to go) is going to 4 in the two non-dominant, to get the level 4 Affinity uniques. Then you can use all your Strategic Resources instead of just having something to trade away.

Awesome! Just what I need now that a bug broke my "final" BNW game prematurely ;)

I thought so, good to have it confirmed!

it seems to me that one can get lost in the tech web by either trying to go too deep or staying too shallow. Also researching leaf techs too soon or too late. What is a good way to set goals for clearing through the tech web efficiently?

Spread Miasma icon has wrong tooltip. (on Alien ecology)
Sometimes a tech gives affinity xp twice. (e. g. get a 12xp tech and two 25xp techs so you are on level 4 and 12/16, then take any tech.)

Well it looks like everyone is going to want to pick up most of the first ring. Depending on what faction your playing you may want to dive in deeper into the web for when you get free techs. Getting affinity points is important but, your also going to want to pay attention to what buildings and improvements you can build. The upgrades to improvement yields are going to drive how you improve your lands and how you want to move through the tech tree. There are many moving parts around which to build a comprehensive strategy.

I believe the gameplay will be way more dynamic through this. In Civ5, you inevitably had moments where you didn't unlock anything meaningful for 20-30 turns (because you were teching prerequites of the techs you really wanted).

Now it seems you're doing something wrong if a tech you just got doesn't unlock anything of immediate use.

Also, when something unexpected happens (like a DoW), you'll most likely be able to switch to a tech that will help immediately (e.g. upgrading your units).

I think the tech web will be awesome! :)

Thanks. I've updated with the fix for Add Miasma. CTRL-F5 to clear cache and update to the new version.

Still working on the affinity problems.

Is it just me or are some the wonders extremely underpowered even compared to others in BE. For example the human idealism wonder gives 4 culture costs 3000 science for the tech and 750 bolts, and now compare this to teh human idealism wonder under the same tech that costs equal science 700 more bolts and gives 2 free virtues and 7 culture.

Some are Definitely UP.
Hopefully they just haven't finished their effects.

here's something i've been working on, with a lot of help from firaxis and 2k ...

Let me know if you spot anything that's off or think of anything cool to add. I might be able to do some of it ... But once the game is released probably no spare time!

It keeps track of base science cost (standard speed) for selected techs and affinity point accumulation. It doesn't account for any free techs, free affinities, or cost modifiers. Any info is subject to change at game release of course.

Warning: A spoiler for anything on the tech web!

thank you good sir! Thank you!

So are we all going to be rushing Gene Vault? I know I am :D

I might want to start with Pioneering too and get a few cities built fast with Old Earth Relic, Clinic, Cytonursery and Alien Preserves.

Thank you and Kudos, Aeson. Your contributions to the Civ community are many and very much appreciated. :goodjob:

Probably my first plan as well! However, Ectogenesis pod looks to be even more powerful, at the mere cost of 100 additional hammers, and a similar tech cost. No affinity points, but may have been the better tactic if the old Adept Blue had spawned near you, open up more of the tech web.

Good job! However, the description of Cytonursery is wrong, the +1 food from marsh isn't mentioned, and it seems to be quite memory-greedy, at least on my laptop.

This is really nice for planning potential tech paths. Thanks.

It would be nice to have the potential quest bonuses for buildings (in the form of X or Y under the yields in the descriptions), but for me that's more of a desire for the actual game than in your tool (time to head over to the BE suggestions forum).

Thanks for pointing that out, it's been updated now. (CTRL-F5 to clear cache and see the changes.)
