Carolus Magnus was meeting with his ministers and informing them of results on the battlefieds, he spoke of the amphibious assault of Holland and the sack of London, the reversal in the North at Edinburgh, and the dramatic victory at Munich. And on the subject of Munich, there came a question from the Minister of wine:

"Your highness, I seem to remember many years ago, before this conflagration became so enormous, that a certain rash Corporal of yours led and ill-advised sortie across the Rhine, which was repulsed by the German border patrol, and clearly gave direct impetus to the dual invasion of France from the combined might of England and Germany which nearly destroyed our country, although in an ironic historical twist, eventually led to France being where she is today, among the most powerful and glorious nations of Europe."

"Ahhh yes." replied the King "He was promoted to General and led the cavalry charge through the Black Forest that won the battle back in October. I told him to get it right this time."

Newsflash:
Will Russia rescue or ravish Germany?
Will Venice be restored to Italian rule?
Will the French be driven out of London?
Will I be rich?
Will I be famous?

We'll find out in Spring 1909 :)

Some friendly abuse:

Snefix and Toasty are allergic to meeting deadlines...

Magnus is starting to deviate from abbreviations as realpolitik knows them: it is "ruh" for Ruhr not "RUM" as you did give me in one order AND it is "lyo" not "GOL" for the "Gulf of Lyon".

Russia, supporting Prussia from Silesia is not the same as supporting a move by your army Warsaw to Prussia.

Germany...you ordered 2 supports for your army in Kiel, which you moved thus wasting all the support moves.

P.S please C.C your diplomacy to me...

Abuse ends ;)

Your despised GM had internet problems which had the deadline been meant wouldn't have slowed the game down...but I'm back now with a 50 times faster connection :D

Newsflash:

Turkey and Austria appear to have arranged a cease-fire...

Italian and Austrian forces fail to avoid each other in a war of desperate maneouver.

Germany retakes London after the French abandon it to engage in a large naval engagement near dogger bank.

NEWSFLASH!

The German fatherland falls...German armies flee to the East to surrender to the tender mercies of the Russian Horde rather than surrender to the French!

:p

The Italians reclaim Venice from the German Empire as the Austrians fail to protect their erstwhile allies.

In Bulgaria bored Turkish forces enjoy watching a battle between Italians and Austria, which ended up in a disappointing draw.

Bone-headed Russian General Slobodoba continues to send frontal assaults upon Armenia which fail to make any head-way as always!

THE DEADLINE FOR SPRING 1910 MOVES IS THIS WEDNESDAY AT 8 PM YOUR LOCAL TIME.

I will be doing NMR from now on if deadline missed by even a second -unless a request is made for an extention 24 hours before.

This game will end in Winter 1914.

Message ends :p

So what happens after 1914? I doubt anybody will be even close to 18 centres by then, so will the country with the most centres be declared the winner, or will the result be a 'Draw Including All Survivors'?

I am sure I'll think of something :p

If I was to setup a game to GM again I would set-out some timelimit to the game.

The reason being to give those players whose nations can't win a reason to fight on -survival. In an open-ended game they face near certain destruction and have little to fight for and once any desire to fight goes then the game loses interest and these players drop-out.

Not everyone fights no matter what the situation is :p

Oh I do! I do what I can with whatever I have, hopeless or not, if I am breathing I am scheming! :king:

You should still list victory conditions as soon as possible, nobody wants to end a game on a GM's whim. ;)

Spring 1910: Newsflash

Admist the chaos in Italy the French armies focus on an indirect maneouver leading them through the Alps to the heart of the Austrian Empire!

Commander of Daneland is heard to mutter: roll up this map we'll not be needing it for the next 10 years!

In a season where news is merely a response to French action it can be said that the defense of London has been compromised and the Austrians face a dilemma concerning Tunis.

In the East there is peace and calm but how long can they sit idle whilst the rest of Europe is becoming a colony of the eternal French Empire?

My apologies concerning the delay of Autumn 1910...I was hoping to receive some orders from Italy. It t'was not to be so we have mutual support as there iis no ambiguity about support orders. A bit of a blow to Austria except to say that there attack was a bit of a shot in the dark.

Another thing to note...I'd prefer e-mail as regarding this game to be sent to my hotmail account: kittenOFchaos@hotmail.com

I am giving up AOL and already have uninstalled it so I am just using their remote e-mail server at present.

Newsflash!

Tunis, Rumania and Vienna are lost by the Austrians to French and Russian forces! Speculation exists as to whether they were gambling on the inactivity of the Russians and Turk and the activity of the Italians...well, 1 out of 3 isn't bad!

Cold comfort for Austria would be that Turkish forces merely watched as the Austrian army left Serbia and marched to Trieste!

The Germans exiled in Denmark and Britain will also be dis-heartened this Christmas as London fell to French marines...
Making a last stand in the tunnels of the Underground German troopers were expelled as noxious gas was pumped in! Germany protests most vigourously that this is against the Geneva Convention...whilst the French claim it is merely the by-products of a pungent new garlic soup they've invented.

Well, I owe France a free visit to the patisserie! I thought I was in time for that move, wasn't, and what difference did it make!!!

I will be back in time to organize myself for the Spring move. Oh, and "no disbands."

Proof that Italians fight better when they stand still...
