A lot of us prefer the DOS version. Not for the sounds but the graphics are really the best.

Oh well if you prefer PC beeper or 8bit SB + VGA 16 colors then I won't add anything else. Guess you already saw the Mac and the DOS version before comparing.

Hey, don't rag on Civ Dos! I think I had an Ad-lib card or something at the time... good God... I recall that I once paid nearly $500 for a paradise EGA -- that's right EGA -- card.

I have the MAC version. Yes, macs still exist.

Well, it works on 95 and XP. So it should.

I don't play, as my Civ copy is so damn slow in my Pentium-IV Xp windowsed

When I discover something, it takes half-a-minute to pass

So I have to play Civ3...

At least now I play for having Port and not for Civ1 being so ******* slow...

Any idea why is it so slow and how can I solve this?

I have both but only play Civ DOS. Civ Win lost the plot, the windows look and feel is not fun and they added complexity without reason.

I do not expect anybody to make a better game then Civ 1, ever, ever, ever.

i (did) play and own

amiga-civ
civ dos
civnet
(winciv still missing)

civdos is most "patchable" and best looking.
pure simple gameplay - fast and satisfying.

civnet is halfway to civ2
(i don't like civ2, i own it and it's a pain in the *ss to play and look at it)
1.) the gameplay is running excellent - the game is fast and running on windows-screens without dosboxes.
but 2.) the keyboard is a pain in the *ss to use if you are used to civdos.
3.) the graphics look very civ2-like strange (you can't identify some units correctly, you can't identify the number of population at city-squares on a LCD flatscreen without looking twice and so on)
fantastic is the 'automatic settler' option (like civ.2 & ...) - this helps much...

amigaciv was very like pc windos.
.
.
.
i would prefer a civnet with more civ.1 graphics...
i hope winciv is a little like that ... ... 'intelligent settlers' and so on?

WinCiv and Civnet.
You could've better made it a multi-option poll though. ;)

Yeah, he could have included the SNES version of Civ. (Which is my favorite)

Civ-Net sucks. Once the time limit is up in a multiplayer game, you can't continue to play. That ruined the game for me. I want a huge high tech war against a buddy.
