From what I posted in another thread on Civics:

As far as math goes, IF you have 5 categories with 5 options in each one, and you have to select one option from each of those categories, the total number of possibilities is not 5*5 but 5^5 (or 5*5*5*5*5) which equals 3125 total possibilites.
