Actually it may be best to do it round by round like Smash suggested. Because it will bbe mor einteresting to see how things progress rather than several player playing all their games quickly whilst others take a long time. This way everyone will take a long time to finish all their games.

Since not everyone visits this site regularily, I think that they should have at least a week to start playing tournament games and people who are playing the newbies should probably P-M as well.

Well the newbies have been contacted but Caldazar and stormtrooper have not returned. I think I will wait till Monday before submitting the result but I would like to see how everyone is going to deal with this. Its likely that they will not play any tournament games, which will not disrupt the time plan but if they ever do want to play chess again, their raing will be terrible.

I think Mep suggested a time limit for making the first move but I thought it was abit short for the first game. So what time span do we give them from now on? Will their overall rating be changed (It should be since they were not forced to join the tournament)?

Finally some facts about the two who have not appeared.

Both are infrequent posters but they could have gone on holiday over easter...

If there are no objections, I don't have a problem giving them until the end of Monday. After that I intend to update the pairings and cross table.

As far as thier ratings goes, while Smash is the final authority, I don't think that unplayed games should effect the ratings of either player.

Thanks for the info on their last post, but it doen't say if they were just lurking. Maybe Smash can answer that?

You should try too if your opponent is ready. If he is still playing both Rd 1 games, he may not want to do so, but you could always ask.

In my game with Jorge (see thread) I misread the piece he had moved, believing he had moved his Knight instead of his bishop. So made an unrelated move and then found out he had actually moved his bishop when he posted again.

If we play on from this situation then I lose in two moves but if we take moves back then I will probably win because I have more pieces...

So what should we do?

Care needs to be taken in the reading and writing of moves. If the move is clearly writen and you make a mistake, you have only yourself to blame.

Jorge is under no obligation to allows you to take the move back. If he does, I won't object, but neither will I approve.
