Civilization III vs Age of Empires II

I like Civ3 because it is turn based, more strategy required.

I prefer Civ 3, because it goes into the modern and space age, but AOE doesn't. That's just my personal preference.
However, I still play AOE when I feel like conducting some medieval battles.

They are both wonderful games. I prefer Civ III, my son prefers AoE II. To me, its like comparing movies and books. AoE is a tactical combat game, involving mouse control, etc. It has very good, on the spot strategy too, and is excellent. Civ III is a strategy game. I like strategy games, so the nod for me goes to Civ.

Played both, but in the long run I like Civ3 more, as I still play it. AoE2 is great, but after a while no matter what game / opponents or other settings, you will have a standard game opening, that you'll perfect over time, but is basicly the same every time.
In Civ 3, this is not the case.

They are really two different games. I sometimes play AOE2 against my friends as a competition, which would be too impractical to do with Civ 3 because its so slow. Other than that I really prefer Civ as it is less about frantically clicking trying to keep up with your enemy.

its too hard to answer, Aok is better multiplayer, civ is well incrediable, the concept alone makes it the best game ever. but really a game of aok with my freinds v another epic civ game. i would play aok. Aoe3 and civ4 now theres a battle......... (red alert is damn awsome as well and diablo)

Civ, because AoE is more linear. You research, you build army, you attack, you win. Civ is different, there are different styles (warmonger, builder), deciding between short- and long-term goals, and the quote is my sig.

I actually haven't played AoE2. So without knowing anything about it I can't really say....

With my small experience of AoE (I played one game, and I haven't (and won't have) it), I'd say Civ 3. I play Starcraft, and still, I prefer civ. For what everybody said and because I am really bad at RTS!

I'm with Pounder (and many others here): I like the strategy of Civ; I don't like the "clickfest" of RTSes like AoE.
And my 12-year-old grandson enjoys playing Civ3, too.
