Civilization Request Thread

Bracken why do you bother posting here if you just get ridiculously salty and defensive every time someone tries to discuss your designs? Aren't there more private places you could post that would prevent people challenging your ideas? Like, I dunno, microsoft word?
Everyone may use and modify my ideas (based on your own tastes). I don't go in cycles on intellectual property rights. I will not realize my ideas. So my UA/UU/UB and etc. may be OP or not OP or have no synergy. So what about critic? It doesn't mean a thing to me.

No-ones going to want to help you realise them if you just berate anyone who tries to help or modify the designs.

As soon as I have posted my ideas in this topic ideas become impersonal/public. So you can't help me because "me" disappear. Do you dig what I mean?

no, they're still your ideas. You can still accept and use criticism and discussion.

No. I gift these ideas to all. I don't need it. You may to pass by in silence. You may take ideas and throw it on the scrap-heap. And you may take ideas and use/midify it. But you may not give back these ideas.

I don't think anyone else wants to take the time to modify your designs. You should modify your designs from criticism you get if you want any chance of something becoming of them. If not don't bother posting them.

Don't post.
I have the right. Democratic values.

Moderator Action: If you have the right to post, others have the right to discuss what you post. This is a discussion forum and discussion is encouraged as long as it is on topic and civil. This argument is neither and I would consider it spam. Please get back on topic and stop discussing each other.
Please read the forum rules: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=422889

Your freedom of speech does not apply here... Read the forum rules. But posting for posting's sake, with no real intention to get\ give anything from it, is spamming.

(But it would be nice of you to be more... Discussive.)

Civilization: Oceania

Leader: Big Brother

UA: Doublethink: Increased resistance to spying. Decreased unhappiness. Decreased production.

UU: Thought Police Officer: Replaces Great General. Increases combat strength even more than a normal general.

You know, you should post more details.

I'm not sure if that UA is the best alternative for Oceania: I'd personally focus less on the massive surveillance and more on Big Brother's Cult of Personality, as that was at least what I noticed the most while reading Nineteen Eighty-Four. I cannot impose this on you, though, and I can definitely see why you went down that road.

On the other hand, making the Thought Police Officer a UU is not really appropriate, if anything the thought police should be referenced through a UB or (as you have) through the UA. In addition the increased combat strength bonus is not very fitting for them either.

Yeah, that's fair. What I was thinking with the Thought Police Officer would be to have them be more or less commissars (political officers who shoot at any retreating soldiers). I think you're right, though, in that it wouldn't feel very oceanic. I can't, however, think of a better unit off the top of my head.

I can see how "Telescreen System" would be a doubleplusgood Unique Building. Room 101, as well.

Speaking of which, I think his dialogue should involve a lot of doublethink/newspeak (For example, upon making peace with you, he would declare say something to the effect of "What war? Oceania has always been at peace with -your civ name-."

Well, it has been a while since someone posted here, so I figured why not post my idea of a civ based on the TF2 mercs :D

I'm not expecting anyone to make it though, just wanted to share.

Team Fortress 2 Mercenaries, as lead by the Administrator:

UA: Mercenary Army: Gold purchase cost of land units decreased by 25%. When declaring war on a civilization that's already engaging in war, receive a lump sum of gold (bonus is increased when you have ALSO declared war on a civilization on the other side) Earns Great Generals 20% slower.

UU: Payload Cart. Replaces the Guided Missile, but is available much earlier, at Dynamite. Unlike the guided missile however, it's a civilian unit that can blow itself up, dealing massive damage to all units and cities in a one tile radius, including owned and allied units (basically a mini-atom bomb, without the fallout). Can use enemy roads, and double movement on roads.

UI: Control Point. Replaces the Citadel. Also increases the defensive strength of a nearby city by 5, and invading units cannot capture the city in question without first pillaging all nearby Control Points.

Alright, normally I'd post this in my own thread, but this idea is a lot more nebulous and un-developed compared to other concepts I have floating around for future civs, so I thought I'd air the basic concept here and see what people's thoughts were.

Hyrule

Leader: Oraiya Zelda IV

UA: Heroes of Time - Okay, this is probably the part I'm having the most trouble with. There's a good idea in here somewhere, I know it. Basically, every time you enter a new era (As well as when you start out), you're given one of this civ's unique unit: a great hero.

UU: Great Hero - Replaces Great General...probably. The Great Hero has 4 movement, and ignores terrain cost, and is as strong as a swordman starting off. However, he has somewhat low health. For each enemy he defeats however, he gains 5 HP, and for every five enemies he defeats, he gains 5 attack power.

Great Heroes die automatically at the end of each 'era', and are replaced by a new Great Hero of half the strength the previous one was upon death.

UB: Temple of Time - Replaces Grand Temple. Upon completion, increases the base strength and health of Great Heroes by 10. (This is in addition to the benefits of the normal Grand Temple)

Somewhat complicated I know, but I feel it would really capture the spirit of the games. There's already a Hyrule Civ on the Steam Workshop, but it's severely lacking, and hasn't been updated in ages. I want to give people a proper Zelda experience for Civ, with it's own soundtrack and everything.
