It might be a bit controversial but how about an ISIS civ?

35qwb.gif

That man looks... pangolinised...
And ISIS is controversial, like israel( i would do them both if i knew modding better:p)
Scapegrace doesn't really... like those kind of ideas...

Yes, making Civs of people currently competing to see who can be the most atrocious bunch of murderous psychopaths is just a little controversial in the current geopolitical climate. I wonder why that might be.

Well, it's not like we don't already have civs that are known for their brutality. When it comes to savagery and bodycount, ISIS probably pales in comparison to Attila, Genghis Khan and Montezuma. And Hitler and Stalin are plenty controversial too.

And we have a couple of Israels, IIRC. Not any modern-day representations though.

I don't care about controversy, its the fact is that ISIS is a going to be a minor footnote in world history and completely unworthy of a civ, they're easily the most irrelevant of the Arab caliphates, let alone civs in general. Its would only be proposed/made to be edgy for edginesses sake, which winds me up a little.

Besides, for better or worse, tragedies are dulled by time, its generally seen has more insensitive to walk around Israel dressed as a Nazi than it is to parade around Iran dressed as a Mongol. Jus' saying.

Some One-city challange Civs!
Like Venice, there is JFD's Holy Roman Empire and I really like this play style.
(I only get tree cities in the game for picking the ideology, otherwise I would just stay with two one even one.)
I really like these countries, like Liechtenstein, Luxemboug, Monaco and San Marino.

And also, some science oriented Civs. Everywhere you look is culture/religion or warfare.

Hm.
Luxembourg would be economy focused.
Monaco definitely based on tourism, I mean, did someone say "glamor" and "Grace Kelly"?
Liechtenstein - Can't build military units, but receives them from allied city-states (Switzerland does most of Liechtenstein's army work, and there's always that Italian bloke people love to mention so much)
San Marino could get science bonuses the longer it stays with an ideology, reflecting it's status as one of the oldest countries on Earth - it's just a bit modern.

I love tinpot states and banana republics and all that good stuff! Gimme a minute and I'll figure out some rules for Monaco and San Marino. =]

Idea for Singapore:

UA: people's action
May not build settlers or annex cities. Per every embassy in your capital, receive +5% gold, culture and science in the city. Friendly units of other civilizations that end their turn in your territory give +1% science and production towards military units(up to 20%)
UB: national stadium
Replaces stadium. Provides 5 happiness, contains 3 great works of music slots, and increases the duration of we love the king days by 33%.
UI: Industry park
Replaces manufacture. May only be built by great engineer. May be built on sea tiles, and in natural territory. Claims all adjacent tiles. If built on resource tile, it will produce +1 food and production per every 2 copies of the resource in the tile.

Calcul8tor:

Awesome civs!

Can you make a Virginia Civ based on colonial times?
Could you also make another New York civ also based on colonial times?

Hi guys, even if it's my first message i've been following the forum for months enjoying your mods.
Now i wanted to create a new civilization but it turned out i'm quite unable to mod, so i'm asking help for its creation (in case i could write all descriptions, civilopedia and the other needed texts, retrieve materials for specific graphics elements (e.g. pictures for the UU) and make simple editing to xml and lua components).
Sorry in advance for bad English.
Here's my idea.

Kingdom of Two Sicilies (Ferdinando I)
iHggO3J.png

UA: Poverty and Nobility
+10%:c5culture: culture, +10%:c5production: production, +10%:c5science: science...

Option A (original idea)
...in each non-puppet city, in addition +10%:c5angry: unhappiness from :c5citizen:citizens in the :c5capital:Capital. The bonuses apply only in peace time.

Option B (light nerf)
...in the first 5 non-puppet cities ranked according to the respective outcome.

[i.e. the 5 cities with highest culture get the culture boost, the 5 cities with highest production get the production boost and so on.]

Option C (heavy nerf)
...in the first X non-puppet cities ranked according to the respective outcome.
X is a rounded up integer calculated as (Number of cities you own including :c5puppet:puppets and :c5occupied:occupied)/4

[Example: if you have 6 cities only the first 2 cities with highest culture/production/science gets the respective boost, if you have 20 cities 5 cities get the boost, etc.]

The UA widens the disparities among cities favoring standing-out ones.
It captures the historic trait of the Kingdom of 2 Sicilies, that on one hand was able to achieve some important excellences in industrial (e.g the industrial complex of Pietrarsa), naval (e.g. the first steamboat in the world in 1816, 4 years before England), scientific (e.g the first volcanology and geology observatory in the world), law (e.g. first building law including anti-seismic measures) and educational (e.g. the University "Federico II" of Naples was one of the most ancient in the world) fields. On the other hand the non-wealthy population had low standard of living.

UB: Pizzeria (replaces Zoo)
• Requires Tech Economics (instead of Printing Press).
• +2:c5food: food, +3:c5happy: happiness, no maintanance cost.
• starting from Modern Era: +2:tourism: tourism per each :trade: trade route in the city that connects to a different civilization (city states count as one civilization); +1:c5gold:.

[Example:
7 trade routes in city A: 3 to city-states (1), 3 to Marocco (2), 1 to Germany (3),
3 trade routes in city B: 1 to Germany (1), 2 to Russia (2)
(3+2) x2:tourism: = +8:tourism:
]

UU: Brigante (replaces Cavalry)
• strenght: 30:c5strength: (instead of 34)
• Homeland Claimants:+25%:c5strength: combat strength against units and cities in all territories originally owned by the player (i.e. friendly territory plus :c5puppet:puppets and :c5occupied:occupied cities originally owned by the player and now under control of other civilizations)
• Call of Duty: when a tile with farm, pasture, lumbermill, mine, quarry improvement is pillaged by non-barbarian enemy unit, a Brigante unit with halved HP spawns near the pillaged tile (only in that case the Brigante has no unit mantainance costs).
• Can repair pillaged farm, pasture, lumbermill, mine, quarry tiles.

After the annexation of Two Sicilies by Sardinia in 1860, for a decade a guerrilla had been raging against the invaders. The brave partisans fighting for the liberation (mostly farmers, shepherds, former Neapolitan soldiers) were labeled as "briganti" (brigands, bandits) by propaganda of the new-born Kingdom of Italy, that eventually got rid of them even through razing whole towns (such as Pontelandolfo and Casalduni) and deporting in concentration camps (such as Fenestrelle).

Start Bias: coast
Architecture: Mediterranean
Spy Names: Gennaro, Ciro, Filomena, Salvatore, Carmela, Pasquale, Assunta, Vincenzo, Gaetano, Concetta
Preferred Religion: Christianity (G&K) or Catholicism (BNW)
Preferred Ideology: Order

To make it short i need someone to create:
• the xml and lua code of UA, UB, UU (and maybe soundtrack, i have already set a list of suitable music).
• the dawn of man image and the leader, pizzeria, brigante icons (edit: and a better civ icon).

Someone interested? :)

Their icon had better be a highly detailed version of their coat of arms, assuming anyone wants to take it on.

The game won't be able to handle that many colors!
The largest size used by the game is, IIRC, 64x.
Nope. Largest size is used by every conventional icon and is 256x256 px, although according to this the actual radius (or actually I'm pretty sure FA meant diameter) of the icon is 172px.

omg, beautiful, thank you :goodjob:

could you make some combination with these red and yellow?
or maybe if it bothers you pass the template file so i can modify it on my own? :)

It's not quite so that Janboruta was offering it to you, merely pointing out that it was an icon intended to be in use for one of my mods (Naples, but under Ferdinand I anyway).

But, I don't know. It's Jan's art, so maybe he was :p

^ This. As indicated by this quote:

I think JFD is already planing on Kingdom of Naples.

Also, I merely wanted to post it as an example of what can be done in terms of translating real-world, complicated emblems into simplified symbols that can stand for them in a game like Civilization, that would be recognisable at small sizes. Also, I've chosen purple colour palette, because there are way too many red+gold colour combinations in civ icons at the moment.

Then, i'm a newbie here, hem... how does it work?
Could be two mods practically on the same civilization or i have to drop?

Certainly JDF's mod has infinite more possibilities than mine to come to light and as i have already enjoyed some of his modded civ, only the fact he's working on Naples civ makes me glad and comforted about quality.
Anyway even if i'm kinda fond of my idea, what matters is to have a badass-accurate Naples civ.
So, JFD, as i'm an "autochthon" if you need some help on history details or whatever i'm available.
I have only a request as native: if you're going to use Bourbons icon please could you use Kingdom of Two Sicilies as name?

@janboruta: thanks for the sample icon anyway :)
