Civilization Request Thread

Should probably add a trojan war unique into it, replace the Equetai with a Trojan UU with bonuses for defence or something. ?

How about a Trojan Horse unit: a melee siege unit similar to the Battering Ram or Siege Tower that bypasses city Walls?

Is it possible to bypass city walls?

Beats me, I don't know anything about coding. But if it's possible to bypass a fortification bonus, then maybe it's possibly to bypass the extra city strength from Walls :dunno:

Mneh, I don't like the idea of using a semi-legendary, one-time unit as an infinitely produceable and historical UU. It seems wrong, besides, even if I did do it; I've already given Mehmets Cannon the ability to bypass city walls. I feel like I'm going to run out of bonuses eventually, they're getting significantly more oddball and unique as they go along just to keep things different

I mean Teddy's America, my first split civ, got simple city state buffs, whereas my latest, Narmers Egypt, has a whole system using We Love the King Day to simulate the flooding of the Nile. Gotta keep things unique eh?

Redesigned Pedro II, which was the one I had the most trouble creating and still wasn't satisified.

UA: The Grandson of Marcus Aurelius: Upon completing a Social Policy tree, recieve a free tech. For every era that passes, Social Policies are reduced by 5%.

UB: Theatro Municipal: Opera House replacement. Specialists in this city generate +2 culture.

UU: Fatherland Volunteer: Rifleman replacement. Cheaper, fights better in friendly territory. Gains Culture and Science from kills.

I removed it because I have issues.

Maybe I'll bring it back sometime.
:'( I love challenges. Hence my masochistic drive to split down eevery civ... speaking of:

Germany Split I

The Hanse
Leader:Tidemann Steen
UA: Hansa Teutonica
Whenever a :trade: cargo ship is sent to a foreign city, receive 10% of the :c5production: production towards a Kontor in that city. Upon construction of a Kontor in a foreign city, there is a small chance you will instantly :c5puppet: puppet the city.* For every foreign :c5capital: capital with a Kontor, receive an additional :trade: trade route up to a maximum of +5. May not train settlers or annex cities.

UU: Adler (Replaces Caravel)
The Adler is significantly more expensive to produce than the Caravel it replaces, but receives a large :c5strength: combat bonus and generates a small amount of gold when it starts its turn within 2 tiles of a Hanseatic cargo ship. If garrisoned in a city, receives a small amount of :c5war: experience each turn for every incoming :trade: trade route.

UB: Kontor (Replaces Marketplace)
The Kontor, unlike the marketplace it replaces, provides a far larger bonus for trade routes to this city; +3 :c5gold: gold instead of +1. Furthermore, if built in the :c5capital: capital, the Kontore receives two merchant specialist slots which provide additional :c5war: experience to naval units if filled. If built in a foreign city, Kontore provide +3 :c5gold: gold and +1 :c5production: production towards naval units in the capital :c5capital: capital.

*(Chance doubled for city states, but still very low)

Kingdom of Bavaria
Leader:Ludwig II
UA: Die Wiesn
Starting in the renaissance era; all cities generate 1 unique 'Beer' bonus resource every 30 turns, though the rate of generation is increased for every worked mountain or wheat tile. Cities celebrating 'We Love the King Day' consume 1 'Beer' resource every 2 turns and generate +10% :c5culture: culture and a random amount of :c5greatperson: Artist, Writer or Musician points every turn. This can continue indefinitely; though 'We Love the King Day' will end if there are no more 'Beer' resources in this city.

UB: Bierstube (Replaces Zoo)
The Bierstube provides +1 base :c5happy: happiness and +2 :tourism: tourism and :c5culture: culture for every Beer resource in this city. During 'We Love the King Day' - the Bierstube yields an additional +1 :c5happy: happiness and increases the yields of :greatwork: Great Works in this city by 1 :c5culture: culture and 1 :tourism: tourism.

UU: Jager (Replaces Rifleman)
The Jager, unlike the Rifleman it replaces, starts with one of three unique promotions; if trained in a city with less than 3 unimproved forest tiles or mountain tiles being worked - the Jager receives the promotion 'Hunter' which grant it +10% :c5strength: combat strength in rough terrain. If there are at least 3 unimproved forests or 3 mountain tiles in the city - the Jager receives the 'Proficient hunter' - granting it +15% :c5strength: combat strength in rough terrain and +1 :c5moves: movement points in forest or jungle. If there are at least 3 unimproved forests and at least 3 mountain tiles in the city - receive the promotion 'Master hunter' - granting +20% :c5strength: combat strength in rough terrain, the ability to completely ignore terrain cost requirements, and +1 :c5culture: culture generation per turn.

Thoughts?

Still to come:

Something ancient?
Expansionist Teutonic order
Militaristic Prussian Kingdom
Militaristic German Empire
Militaristic German Third Reich (Anyone noticing a pattern here?)
Economic/Diplomatic FRG
Production GDR

Prussia should also have a cultural focus assuming it's led by Frederick the great. perhaps something to do with great works of music.

Kontor isn't exactly a marketplace(nice UA though ).
Is jager Bavarian?

Thought I had to respond to the designs posted in my absence. Oh, yeah, the civ design archive will probably be up today.

@GPuzzle
Pedro II
This looks great, go for it.

@Urdnot_Scott
Spoiler :
Akhenaten
No comment, really. It is cool, balanced and fits the leader. Bretty gud.

Ptolemy (Soter?)
Same as above, to be honest.

Narmer
I really, really like this one, it is a very interesting way of representing the Nile flood, something I didn't even think about representing myself. When (read: If) I make my own Narmer civ, I'll have to incorporate part of this one. However, I think it doesn't fit the creator of the world's first empire too well, but, ah, whatever works. I also think the additional bonuses from Food Plains may be a bit excessive, since 'We Love the King Day' already increases Food.

Hansa League
Pretty interesting civ you've got there. Good way of doing the Hansa, but I don't know if they actually owned any cities. They certainly conducted business in Bergen, Tallinn etc. but they didn't own those cities, I think.

Also, kontor means office, but I think you know that. :p

Bavaria
Eeeh... this one is weird in three ways:
  1. Beer focus... really? That seems way too stereotypical, and maybe even offensive.
  2. Almost everything is way too complicated. And that's me saying that. I love complicated things.
  3. JFD has already made a Bavaria led by the Swan King. I understand you do this for fun, but I think it's a bit disrespectful to seemingly disregard it completely.
Also, Jäger should be written either Jaeger or Jeger, not Jager, and the name has already been taken by JFD's Germany revision, anyway.

Future Germanies
Many of these are already done:
Something ancient (The Germans)
Prussia (JFD's Prussia, although if you were to do a different leader that'd be ok)
German Empire (JFD's Germany Revision, Greater Europe's Germany (Wilhelm II)
Third Reich (JFD's Germany (Hitler))

I am overall fairly displeased with your handling of Germany, since most of the civs are already done.

@Natan
Spoiler :
Srivijaya
I feel the UA is a bit too weak, and that parts of it is too similar to CL Australia. The UU is waaay too good, though. A Caravel that is available so early should not have any other bonuses unless it has some severe penalties. The UB is good, though.

Majapahit
Right off the bat I think it's weird to make a civ based on the king of Gajah Mada...
Then, the UA is overpowered. The unique luxury bonus should be good enough, sicne the free Happiness is great. The uniques are good, though.

Gajah Mada
Eeeh... the text from the second part of the first UA sounds redundant. If you gain +1 Culture during both peace and war, why don't you just write +1 Culture from Plantations? But mechanically it sounds pretty good.
Then again, the second UA sounds incredibly powerful. UA + Consulates + Papal Primacy = potentially perpetual hegemony over all City-States. The two first components should be balanced enough.
The Unit is pretty good.

If anyone has a design from the last ~30 pages they don't want in the Archive, please tell me.

The Caravel? It has low strength.
also, I might update my designs.
(And add some based on ideas I occasionally had)

More critique (this time, revamped Normandy) plox?

William the Bastard, Normandy

UA: From Duke to King: Units recieve a bonus outside friendly lands. Defensive Buildings provide +1 Happiness and +5 XP. Free Walls in captured Cities.

UU: Conroy: Knight replacement. Available at Civil Service. Has an unique promotion, "Norse Blood", that gives it +50% Strength while attacking, +30% while adjacent to an unit and +1 Movement.

UI: Motte and Bailey: Can only be built on hills. Available at Masonry. +1 Food, +2 Gold. Goes up to +2 Food and +4 Gold once Chivalry is researched.

Decisions:

Declare Holy War Against Sicily - Must be at war with someone that has a different majority religion, and must have discovered Theology. Two Conroys, a Great General and two Missionaries appear, and Motte and Baileys as well as Defensive Buildings provide +2 Faith.

Encommend the Bayeux Tapestry - Must have captured at least one Foreign Capital and have a Great Work of Art. All Capitals under your Control recieve a Great Work of Art slot, recieve a free Great Artist and Defensive Buildings+Motte and Baileys provide +2 Culture.

I think this could give Shaka a run for his money, the civ is really good at offense, with ridiculous numbers of XP bonuses, extra happiness and stronger when fighting, well, anything beyond your borders.

This may be borderline too powerful.

Egyptian Split II
I think Narmer's UA should be: conquered city's generate WLTKD points in city's on rivers. During WLTKD's city's on rivers get 15% of conquered city's production and food. Yes I am aware that this is very similar to Viregels old Austria- Hungary mod. I also think the nilometer's food bonus should be reduced to 3%.
