I've finished writing the "engine" for my Civ1/Civ2 quiz. And I've got 26 questions added. I'm going to add more and cehck spelling and stuff tonight. I'll upload it tonight or tommorrow and then we will see what you REALLY know about Civ. <img src="icon12.gif" border="0">

Well.....It's done!!!

I've written the quiz and uploaded it to: <a href="http://www.civfanatics.com/others/Civ_Trivia.zip" target="_blank">http://www.civfanatics.com/others/Civ_Trivia.zip</a>

It's 25 questions about Civ 1 and Civ 2.

It's written in QBasic but everything you need in included in the download.<br />Once you unzip it just double click "Run Test.bat" / "Run Test"<br />If you forget or have trouble, all the info is in the "Readme First.txt"

Make sure you post here to share your scores!!! Here is mine:

It helps when you write the test. <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

oh darn, I can't run this as is on a mac.

To anyone on a Mac:

If you still want to take part but can't run the program...add a note and your e-mail address here. Then I will e-mail you the questions. You can answer them and send the answers back. I'll fill out the test and send you the results.

That way....everyone can take part!!

Not bad, 75%. <img src="icon12.gif" border="0">

97.77778% I missed one point. <img src="icon9.gif" border="0"> I guessed wrong on how many scenarios there were. (You're right, I'm not a scenario player. <img src="icon12.gif" border="0"> )

You might want to check the T/F #4. It was worded kinda weird. I had to read it four of five times to be sure what it might have been asking.

Nice..

But I have to say, you could compile this.. Theres a little imporoved version of QBASIC called QuickBASIC..

There are plenty of places to find QuickBASIC, just not on your computer.

Also there are a few things you could do to streamline the app, but I'm not going to go into it, but if you're interested, I might clean this up for you. (and also compile it when I find QuickBASIC again, I moved on to Visual basic, so I haven't really bothered getting Quickbasic again.. <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> )

hi guys <br />heres the compiled version just click the link <a href="http://www.geocities.com/bgreernz/TTest.htm" target="_blank">Compiled Version (hopefully it works)</a> <img src="graemlins/goodwork.gif" border="0" alt="[Good Job]" /> <br />the source is included

Hey Cornmaster, you are a veritable fountain of creativity... first the animated GIF maps, and now tests!

I'm not a Civ 1 player (but I do have it somewhere), though fortunately, I've read all the the Civ II manual and the Civ II strategy guide several times... and all the differences you brought up (except the "Floods" question) are covered.

BTW, how do you tell what you missed when you are done? I don't remember what I missed, but I had to make educated guesses about several, especially the one about the city walls and floods.

You can't tell, what you missed. That's part of the point. If it told you the right answers then you couldn't redo the test to get a better score. Most of the questions are Multi Answer....there are more than one right answer, with varing points. I know one question has | 1 point | 2 points | 3 points | 3 points | :D

I guess I can start working on more questions.....

Terrak:<br />I would have compiled it but I couldn't find one. QuickBasic is supposably a commerical product. So I read about that work-around on a website.

That was my first QBasic program. I too, generally stick with Visual Basic. But I wanted to try my had at something new....or old. ;)

Thanks, for the offer.....if you have any tips you could e-mail them to me.....I'd be happy to streamline it but I don't feel it's necessary.....It doesn't run THAT bad does it??? :)

No worries. ;)

In the interests of helping improve CornMaster's excellent program, I've made some minor fixes & changes, which are explained in detail later in the post.

The brand-new Version 1.1 of the program now reports the missed questions, and also reports the 100% correctly answered (full credit) questions. In version 1.1, there are also a lot of relatively minor bug fixes, and even a "Cheat Mode".

Here is the new Version 1.1: http://www.civfanatics.com/uploads/Civ_Trivia_1-1.zip

Version 1.1 enhancements are shown below:

Version 1.1 Sample Output Notes:

CivTest_1-1_Sample_Output.gif

All the question content, scoring, answers, etc. is unchanged. The Title line is added, and the "missed" and "Correct" lines are added.

If a number in parenthesis follows a question number in the "Missed" line, then it tells you the number of points you recieved. That answer was not 100% "Correct", so it reports the number of points that you got awarded for partial credit.

If a question number appears in the "Correct" line, then you got it 100% right, and got the maximum points for that question. :)

P.S., The Version 1.1 is released to Cornmaster, who may use, modify, improve, etc. it as he sees fit. Of course, anyone may download and and run it:
