[LP] Civilization VI: Leader Pass - Predict the leader abilities

Eh, I've always seen Eleanor as a pacifist domination leader. I'd see Lizzy getting a bonus for GWAM generation. (Even if the Elizabethan Renaissance was actually a little short on the AM part.) Or just a bonus related to having Great Works--say bonus Culture and Science from Great Works? Maybe even tie it into colonization--bonus yields from Great Works in cities not on your original continent. Not really that flavorful for Lizzy; it's not like Shakespeare was from Roanoke. But it's just the aspect of Lizzy I find more interesting. I'd love to see England and France swap roles in Civ7: cultural Lizzy-led England, war-and-commerce-and-colonies Henri IV-led France.
An idea that I just had was maybe Great works could provide amenities when placed in a Theater Square? Would tie into the English Renaissance and a domination playstyle.

Assuming Lincoln has an NFP-style agenda likes "hates civilizations that are happy," he and Lizzy really won't get along. "Happiness and theatres? How dare you!" :mischief: Should probably save that agenda for John Calvin, though... :shifty:

I'm personally hoping for he hates civs that don't industrialize.
Though you're probably end up being right. Though I think it will be more like "Plantations and theaters? How dare you keep you're people happy!"

Is she required for GS, because that ability uses power?
And there goes away the crackpot theory. No, GS is not needed, so only base game abilities for Steam(punk?) Vicky. Or maybe not... Workshop of the World description uses power, but only to mention powered buidings. Other than that, bonuses do not need GS features. And bonuses to iron and coal are just screaming Age of Steam...

Spoiler Workshop of the World :
Iron and Coal Mines accumulate +2 resources per turn. +100% Production towards Military Engineers. Military Engineers receive +2 charges. Buildings that provide additional yields when powered receive +4 of their respective yields. +20% Production towards Industrial Zone buildings. Harbor buildings grant +10 Strategic Resource stockpiles.

I assume that Steampunk Vicky will synergize with WotW, rather than absorb it. I'm thinking she will be a builder with science. Think Crystal Palace and all that.

As said above I still think she'll give England more of a focus on production and science. She might not get the direct Workshop of the World ability, but it will definitely synergize with it. :)

Are people still underestimating Engleanor? I'm sorry, but having better and cheaper Military Engineers to speed up dams and aqueducts in new "conquested" cities to increase their pop and put more loyalty pressure is waaaay better than Freleanor than, counterintuitivally, doesn't synergize well with France's CUA.

Although, Engleanor with British Museum might be great for your core cities. But remember how it worked: archaeological museums in new cities didn't get the +3 artifact slots, so conquered cities would serve nothing.

And Kristina got the "automatically themed" bonus anyway, so it will definitely never happen.

However, a steampunk Vicky without Gathering Storm will seem... curious. I'm utterly fascinated by the possibilities of some new leaders (like, I understand, Julius need to have something simple in a way to keep Rome as the "newbie" civilization, and "Veni Vidi Vici" is definitely a powerful ability... but they said the new leaders will have new and challenging gameplays, I hope they didn't included Julius in it because, as far as we saw, it's powerful but doesn't really push you in a new and unchartered direction ala Maoris, Malians, Portugueses or Vietnameses)

Are there available numbers on how many people playing are still on vanilla (or, more to the point, how many people playing vanilla would be interested in a leader pass anyway)?

By a very unscientific measure - the highest achievement in Civ is about 80% of players. The highest GS achievement is about 33% of players. So perhaps 60% on vanilla? I'd guess among active players the vanilla % is actually significantly lower, as that 80% includes a lot of bought it and played it a little bit, while expansion purchasers would likely be more active in general.

Their release of the Leader Pass basically incentives buying the anthology though, so I'm sort of inclined to think they've just designed the LUA's they wanted to rather then specifically tried to keep most of them Vanilla only.

I'm just wondering a little about how much the have to design these with vanilla play mind vs. just including that as almost afterthought.

Given how Ethiopia's Rock-hewn church has different stats depending on if you have Gathering Storm or not, there is precedent for two different abilities based on which XP's you own.

My guess is there's no requirement to design with vanilla play in mind. They just spitball abilities that sounds interesting and most of them end up vanilla.

Most of the Leader pack will come via anthology purchaes so I'm guessing the vast majority of LP players will have the expansions.

But moreover, like a majority of the leaders/civs in the actual expansion packs didn't even use the expansion pack mechanics and just built on vanilla.

The good news is at least three of them: Sejong, Sundiata Keita, and Suleiman the Magnificent (Persona) will use existing civs that come from the expansions. :)
I didn't include Nader Shah and Theodora because they are leading DLC civs that were released using vanilla rules.

I have no Idea what the Leader Abilities are gonna be, but I think they will all have at least one part of their Ability that has to do with Diplomacy (or something that doesn't have to do with internal affairs, like extra Loyalty Pressure for Saladin for example).

EDIT: and I would also bet that at least some Leaders will have different Abilities based on the Ruleset (like when RnF or GS is enabled). After all, most of the Players that will get the Leader Pass will already have the Anthology Collection or the Expansions.
