Lotus Blossom memento does a pretty good job of nullifying that malus very quick for the Mughals:

Oh, yes! Coincidentally, I'm using it for the first time in my current game (after saying a few days ago that I always use the same ones...). It's a great memento. I've been sleeping on some of these, also the Merchant's Saddle that gives extra movement to scouts, merchants, settlers, and explorers.

This was certainly not the case for me in the only playthrough I've finished on 1.2.4 so far (Deity, Large Archipelago).

Here's a screenshot from turn 47, just a few turns before I completed the World's Fair What's worse is that Machiavelli had about 20-30% higher culture than me throughout the entire modern age...

That's abysmal ! On Deity on top

Here's what mine looked like... much better ! It was turn 73 though !

Yeah I always, always forget to change the mementos at age transition... So I mostly always have Imago Mundi and Merchant Saddle
