Civilization4.exe – unable to locate component

howdy.

man am i bummed. i had a bit of trouble loading the game but it finally loaded. when i try to start the game i get this message:

"Civilization4.exe – unable to locate component

This application has failed to start because D3DX9_26.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

i have reloaded 3 times and i get the same message. i have win xp and went back in time to see if i could get rid of it but no luck.

i have an nvidia GF6800 series so i know it can handle one of sid's civ games.

please help. i'm so bummed i'm not playing.

Did you install directX from game CD if not do so...read the sticky threads

You need to install DirectX off the install disk. Open the disk, find the DirectX folder, and run DXSetup.exe.

hi

i've searched high and low for the direct x file nothing. and i looked for this file: DXSetup.exe. i can't find it anywhere. i should probably just go read the sticky. sorry.

i get several hits for direct x but they are for other games. i also have civ III installed if that helps.

i'm not that great with software so please bear with me. i went to search for DXSetup.exe. too and came up with nothing. i have disk one in.

i've also done a search just on the disk itself and nothing came up. hey maybe i have a collector's item. a disk without direct x.

i appreciate the input. i'll keep searching.

Are you searching on your PC hard drive, or on the CD-Rom?

Open the disk in Windows explorer, and there should be a folder called "DirectX". That's where dxsetup.exe should be located.

found the right area . got it. here goes nothing.

go to microsoft.com and serch for direct x end user download it and it should work

okay so im getting a similar issue but it's saying this...
civ 4 unable to locate component the application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dill is missing or not found... same issue? just so everyone is aware, im using direct2drive version...

Have a look in your BTS install folder. That dll should be there. If it is not, contact D2D support.
