CIVplomacy in the Ten Tribes

Great to see some old players back! And some new players too.
This is goign to get interesting!

hey too much of apocalypse according to rules, or, it is allowed at starting point? but that makes no reason, since...... teams will be unbalanced from a start :D

Ohey, how many old faces back on scene! Who could forget several of the most prominent Aztecs under the almighty Yahzuk? ;)

The 15% player limit is suspended during this initial signup period. Once the game starts (this weekend!) that rule goes back into effect and no one can join a tribe that has more than 15% of the players. For the initial start, I wanted everyone to pick whatever tribe they wanted, even if it meant a little early imbalance. (It just gives the other tribes a little more incentive to work together against them!)
:satan:

The other tribes working together to counter the Cult of the Apocalyspe?

Can you not see the tantalizing madness behind this idea? They would effectively be working together, to counter each other!

Oh, this is so delicious! :satan::mwaha:

<-- Joining the only gang in town. Cult of the Apocalypse. To all you Storm children: we don't have to fight! We can work together!

(Up until all the partials are completed. Then we burn.)

But until then, we work together! Let's be friends.

And of course, I can't start a game without just a smidge of rules-editorializing. Only 2 things this time, Yahz, which of course you can ignore if you like:

1) Could we plan for the 15% cap to get higher as the game goes on and some tribes are disqualified? If only 4 tribes could possibly win (like in the V3 example from the rules), then probably some 40% of players will have no stake in winning, which would be no fun at all. And the game will probably eventually come down to only 2 or 3 tribes realistically competing, in which case the 15% number gets even sillier. We wouldn't have to actually write hard numbers down for this, but just a word of "we'll reexamine the tribe transfer caps if necessary" would let me rest a little easier.

2) Can we please, please, please play on an easy difficulty? Preferably Chieftan, but no more than Warlord. Most of the other games we've played like this have been cut way short by the necessary handicaps we have relative to computer players, like how we can't make immediate decisions and our limited number of actions leaves a lot to random chance. If we're ever going to get close to any partial victory conditions, we need these dice stacked in our favor. Basically, the easier the computers are to beat, the more we get to fight amongst ourselves. And doesn't that make everybody win?

Lastly (and this isn't a rules change request), do we get to know map size/civ number/city state number before we start? That will make things much easier to reason about regarding Diplo and Domination victories.

Easy difficulty basically makes losing impossible. Not a good thing for the Cult of the Apocalypse.
I think that, in honor of the Gods & Kings expansion, we should play on Kings difficulty :D (but not on Deity!)

My original plan was to play it on Kings (in honor of Gods & Kings exactly as Carnid said). Then I decided to take it down to Prince to make more room for infighting. (but not enough room to ignore the other CIVs)

Map is standard size. 8 civs (including us), 16 city states.

I'm not sure about raising the 15% cap. I think that having it raises the stakes in that you might not be able to simply move to the tribe about to win later in the game. So for now, let's say that I'm willing to consider changing the rule in the future if necessary (which is true of all the rules), but you've got a long way to go to convince me that changing the 15% cap is necessary.

Remember, my clanmate: our goal is not merely to lose, but to lose AFTER we have

1) Caused 4 AIs to lose their capitals
2) Built the Apollo program (!)
3) Gained the favor of 5 city-states for at least 10 consecutive turns
4) Completed 3 Social Policy trees

Heck, I've probably never done all 4 of those in any game that I've won! Truly, our goal is probably the hardest of all, no matter the difficulty. Once we get those 4 done, burning our empire down will be the least of our worries. Giving all our techs & money to other civs, declaring war on everyone, and then building no military units should do the trick, even on Chieftan. (That will be so awesome!!!!!)

So we do not want to lobby for King. Trust me, it's super-sad to make all these plans for cooperation, battle between (human) players, long-term schedules for city building...and then have the whole forum game fail because the AI essentially take the advantage by turn 50. Check the previous games from yahzuk to see what I mean.

Awww....am I the only one who would lobby for Warlord?

What difficulty was Law of the Jungle on?

That one game was very interesting, why did it die? I was doing quite well in it...

Law of the Jungle was on Emperor. It died because it had design flaws and was beginning to snowball out of control. Any number of characters could be on a tile and earn the tile's output by toiling. Some of the food rich tiles were allowing the characters there to continuously procreate, cranking out more and more characters who were staying on the tile to toil producing more and more food.....

Heck, I've probably never done all 4 of those in any game that I've won!

So if you manage to do all 4 of those things instead of focusing on 1 or 2, you'll already be in a good position to lose the game, right?

I haven't decided which tribe's goal I think is the hardest. It might be the COTA, but the True Tribes have pretty tough goals too in going all the way to victory before a 2nd PVG is completed.

Whoops...;) I guess that explains why we can't have babies in this game.

And not that this should become a LotJ retrospective thread, but I thought that mechanic was pretty well-balanced. Even though I had a gigantic family, I had basically no Gold or Fame, and my ability to have kids had maxed out because of the exponential cost curve. So even though I had actions to spare, Sparthage and JoanK had their own advantages because of the different strategies they had taken (and the same would have been true of Jehoshua if he hadn't come up deuces in that duel and got sacrificed). Plus, Ceskari was still lightyears ahead of everyone...

Ah, what fun that was. Looking forward to this one.

It Begins…..

It had all started with a handful of people. Mostly families, unable or unwilling to follow their nomadic peers. They had found this wonderful land, wealthy in food with great rivers filled with all sorts of delicious fish, and decided to stay. They quickly realized that they could build their huts to be sturdier. The only downside was that they couldn't disassemble them and carry them somewhere else anymore, but they had decided to stay, so it didn't matter. Many nomadic people came and wait, and asked them who they were. The people simply replied 'Maya', which meant 'Us', or 'People'. Many nomadic people came and wait, but some stayed.

Eventually more huts appeared, and more, and then even more, until the point where a man, one of the first to have settled, climbed up a hill nearby the group of huts, and looked around. He did not know enough words to speak of the strong feeling he felt by looking at the village and the people, at how big they had become, at how healthy their children were, and how happy everyone seemed. He did not know enough words, but this one word came to his lips: Palenque. And so the city of Palenque was born. What would await the Mayans in the future? The man could not see at the time all the possibilities and the potential of his people, but he knew a time would come where everyone in the world will look at Palenque and feel the same way he felt at this very moment.

The man gathered up a few people, the strongest and quickest, and told them they should explore the lands around the village so we know what surrounds us. He told the women of the village that they should find a way to store food in something that will keep the wild animals from stealing it from them, one of them had found a way to make some sculptures with clay, which would soon lead to the discovery of Pottery. He then gathered the sturdiest men, those who, with him, had built many of the huts and fell many of the trees, and told them of his plan to build a great Monument to honor the gods and thank them for this magnificent land.

Just to confirm, can I issue a command for all these 3 things, or I need 3 commands? If so, for the sake of the rules, I issue the command to research pottery!

The Yamabushi emerged from a large mountain with a splitting headache, ruling Kyoto for 100 years and defying the mortal spawn of that world was fun, but even he needed time to recuperate before being reborn into a new body every once in a while. No, it was definitely time for a break, and where better than the beaches of Cancun, blessed by the glorious carribean sun and lapped by the waves of a tropical sea.

Walking down the hill he prepared his mind to behold the glory of this most magnificent of recuperation spots and beheld... a gleaming flint knife plunging into the chest of an insignificant mortal. It seems that his rebirth had gone slightly wrong... yes the beach was there, along with a handy lagoon for those less inclined to surf. But lacking were modern amenities, and in were the sacrificial altars and classic mayan fashion. This was not Cancun 2012, this was Palenque 4000 years before the mid-date of the life of most timelines.

The Yamabushi mused for a second and after watching the blood flow down the stone altars below him said.

"Meh, close enough"

and proceeded to switch a kimono with a mayan loincloth and head off to the beach. All while the sacrifices continued.

They would require 3 separate commands (3 separate actions).
Your command here for research is fine.
You need to get 2 other players to issue commands for the 2 other things.
