Civs of Tarkir

Eh, it'll do. Then I'll just list locations as if they're cities.

Ehh good enough, anyway hows coding progressing exactly? (and are you still interested in doing some sort of collab in the future after some prior discussions.)

I've just been laying the groundwork at the moment while I attempt to devise finalised designs for the remaining three. After that I'll set up any of the effects that don't require lua and then start searching around.

I'm not planning on creating any historical civs until I finish this little project, but after that we shall see.

How's this?

Zurgo - Mardu Horde (Edicts of Ilagra)
Raze cities at double speed. Units which require Iron or Horses cost no maintenance.*
UU: Ankle Shanker
Replaces Swordsman. Slightly weaker, but gains an attack bonus and an additional movement point while in enemy territory.
UU: Heart-Piercer
Replaces Knight. Ranged mounted unit. Weaker than the Camel Archer but stronger than the Keshik. The penalty for attacking cities is decreased, and the Heart-Piercer gains a much larger flanking bonus than usual.

*This whole thing might be a bit OP.

In other news, I might need to take the last sentence out of the Abzan UA, because it's flowing on to the next screen.

That design looks pretty solid, I'm not really the biggest fan of not having all of a type of unit not require their specific resource. I mean, it's okay for unique units or buildings, and I understand the usefulness of not being crippled by an unlucky start - but I still feel that part of the UA isn't too interesting. It also makes Horses and Iron pretty useless asides from for yields and for trading, which I'm not wild about.

That wasn't intended to be harsh, as I quite like the design of the Mardu uniques.

Also, nice new Icon - art should be pretty easy for this project at least ;)

It's a bit hard to think of a good UA for making big armies that hasn't been done to death. The general idea with the UA was to make the UUs more effective because they don't ravage your treasury. They'll still require their strategic resources.

Registered so I could help with the brainstorming, since I love MTG and this sort of thing in general.

My first thought for the Mardu UA is that purchased units can all move and attack the turn they're purchased -- 'cause you know, speed. For UU, my idea was having the Ponyback Brigade as a horseman replacement that, when completed, spawns three 7-strength mounted units instead of a single twelve-strength one (And would require a bit more production to build as a result).

For Jeskai, you said you were interested in maybe having Mantis Rider as a UU... my first thought on that is an Anti-Tank gun replacement that loses the bonus against armored units in exchange for having the helicopter gunship's high movement and ability to cross all terrain types without penalty (including mountains). It would still be able to attack cities, but would get a penalty to do so like if it were a mounted unit.

While this is certainly interesting, I'm not sure how I feel about the Jeskai getting their UU so late. I mean, Shaolin monks on giant preying mantises is one thing, but Shaolin monks on giant preying mantises beating up tanks? Maybe as, say, a crossbowman this could work.

On an unrelated note, here's what I was thinking for the UA. I don't like it very much.

Jeskai Ascendancy
Receive a free Shrine in each founded city. Upon researching Philosophy, 25% of all Faith produced is added to the empire's Science production.* This is increased to 50% upon researching Education.

*So if you create 8 Faith per turn, you get 2 additional science.

Well, the unit as designed fits best as part of that upgrade upgrade path, due to how it works (Maneuverability, hit and run, helicopter ability). I originally wrote it up as a Lancer replacement, but then I realized the upgrade path would go flying unit -->non-flying unit -->flying unit, so I shifted it up one.

I was considering this for the UU:

Swiftspear
Weaker than the Pikeman, which it replaces, but gains 1 additional movement point. For three turns after a technology is discovered, Swiftspears gain an attack bonus.

So, uh, are we alright with this as the Mardu design?

Alright, Abzan is stable. Now all we'll need for it is:
  • Lua (Trait, UU, UI)
  • Art (Leader, UU, UI)
  • Models (UU, UI)
  • Writing (Diplomacy, Civilopedia, Cities)
  • Music (Not a priority)

Are you planning to make these compatible with some of the more popular/widespread Mods like Events and Decisions?

Abzan City List:

Spoiler :
Arashin
Mer-ek
Great Aerie
Lookout Roost
The Unfettered
Shifting Wastes
First Tree
Amber Throne
Sandsteppe Gateway
Ivorytusk Fortress

A 10 city list, and even then I kinda stretched the list a bit. Hope this is enough.

It'll do, it's better than my four, great job!
