Please let me know what you find, Ainwood. It sounds like there's a changed race name in the BIC that's not supported in the pediaicons.txt file in my Mac installer. I'll need to update it.

is there a program I can open the .bic file into so I can check the file reference it is pointing to?

thanks.

nevermind, found hexedit. I cant interpret the code, oh well.

Edited/update :

it isnt just the Mac version, I pointed my roomate to the site ( who has a PC ) and he started 34 same time I did, had same problems too with the pediaicon.txt and things. He played 35 last night and from my experience avoided communications (Negotiation screen) with said race after gaining contact with them. His game crashed after one of their units came into visual , he then went to the Forieng Advisor screen saw that they were there, closed it, and went to the next turn. *Im assuming they tried to make contact with him after his turn ended, thus also going to the Negotiation screen...he also tried just going straight into the Neogotiation screen before the turn ends and same thing/crash*

he has the reg upgrade/PC installs too up to game 34.

Further Updates:

Roomie delayed the taking of a city, which delayed visual contact, once visual contact was made the Foriegn Advisor screen was avoided all together, they contacted him 2 turns later and the Negotiations leaderhead is like a polorized/inverted copy of one of the newer leaderheads taken from the French Leaderhead....but it didnt crash, is the thing. he then left that screen went the Foriegn Advisor screen and was able to make contact regularly, where it had crashed both of us before. But still, the leaderhead on the Foriegn advisor screen is correct and the leaderhead on the Negotiations screen is all messed up.

here are partial crash logs from 1) my gotm35 crashes and 2) my gotm## crashes from when the Civ was first introduced.

Figured out a fix, though I just get a black box for the leaderhead now, but thats fine enough since I can at least play now =) and so can roomie.

a couple of the newer Civs werent like the others...here is how it was and what I changed it to... (ie: ?????_all.pcx)

#RACE_????
art\leaderheads\?????_Large_Neutral.pcx
art\advisors\?????_Advisor.pcx

#RACE_????
art\leaderheads\?????_Large_Neutral.pcx
art\advisors\?????_all.pcx

:crazyeye: :goodjob: :crazyeye:

K back to world domination :)

That's interesting. Maybe the art\advisors\?????_Advisor.pcx file is corrupt :hmm: It opens fine in Photoshop, and I'm sure it worked fine in GOTM 31.

Changng the reference to "?????_all.pcx" just means it points to a non-existent file, which is why you see a black square. You could point it at another .pcx file.

Cowabunga! (or wheat-a-bunga in this case)!

This game is pretty much set up the way I usually play.

Now let's see if I can avoid embassing myself....where was SirPleb's post? :mischief:

not sure that was the culprit, was a temp fix. had to change it back to Advisor again because it crashed again...worked fine for a few turns and crashed again.

get this.... I can communicate fine with them (Negotiation screen), then I go around and trade out "right of passage" with everyone but then ( they wouldnt trade straight ) so once Im done trading with everyone I go back to them (all in same turn) and it crashes again going to the Negotiations screen (only thing thats changed since last visit is trading rights with everyone else)... so something is still wrong there somewhere. Still doesnt explain the off, color inverted graphix'd leaderhead my roomate got when they first contacted him.

back to dead in the water.... :( I also tested changing their moods by demanding stuff to see if mood change was the problem, but wasnt the case.

OK - Anyone with a PTW save downloaded in the last 12 hours, please e-mail the save to me to gotm@civfanatics.net and I'll fix it for you straight away.

I'm into IA and have build a dozen libs and some uni's before i read this. doesn't see much point now in changes; missed out on two techs and some 1000+ shields. got a fair amount of elites though.

what text file identifies the path to the correct ".flc" files? I believe that is where the problem is.

Sorry that we didn't alert you early enough for this.

I have suggested that if we can't catch people before the end of the ancient age, that they simply play on as militaristic and we adjust the Jason score modifiers instead. :hmm:

Its stored in the save game file itself.

I have sent you a PM with a suggestion on how it might be possible to fix it. I've checked the actual save file, and the path looks fine - the path on your mac should be:
root to install \Civ3\Art\Flics\XXXX.flc

Here's the stats for reference - no spoiler yet.

Game: GOTM 35
Date submitted: 2004-09-18
Reference number: 4972
Software Version: PtW 1.27f for Windows

Game status: Diplomatic Victory for Ottomans
Game date: 1535 AD
Firaxis score: 4054

That was an interesting game, and I had no problems. :goodjob:

Help!

I am playing on the PTW open file. At exactly the same point in the IT in my 170BC turn, my game crashes, and has done so at least 4 times already. Basically, after a sequence of barbs impaling themselves on my units in the mountains, a barb horse rides into an undefended city, and the computer crashes.

I really would prefer to not have to give up on this game, but it is looking like I have no choice. Can you offer me any suggestions?

I started playing yesterday (predator, ptw) and three of the luxuries were named 'Conquest', 'Open', and 'Predator' in the 'pedia. :)

Yes. We mark the different start files with resources containing the class names. The reeources themselves have no effect on game play.
