Classic Civ 2025-02-16

Is there a way to add the new and modern civs ? i have try to do it myself but i am not use to this and fail miserably. anyway thanks

I gave this a try as the Inca, completed the ancient era and sucessfully entered the exploration one. Not much to say except that it does what it is supposed to do: You and also the AI stick with the initially picked civ. The specials of your civ appear when you expect them. The only - and purely cosmetic issue - I found so far is that the civ boni get listed three times (probably once for each age):

While that mod of course can't do miracles and fix everything one might dislike about Civ 7's approach to leaders and civs (e.g. you still end up with intial "non-sense" picks among the AI, though I noticed at least that the picks weren't completely random, but "related" choices were made) and the result might make certain civs stronger or weaker (as the given boni are just not balanced for having to float a civ the netire game, it is immersionwise already pretty close to that the mod names indicates: A "classic" Civ experience.

In this light I would really echo the requests to allow also the modern civs for plaing from the ancient age one... Reason: I would like to play a full as e.g. Catherine with the fitting civ of Russia...also choosing a civ with late, 3rd age boni for yourself gives the AI picking a "true ancient one" a nice indirect bonus and makes the game harder :)

Do any of the exploration and modern Civs get their narrative events in antiquity?
I did receive the usual amount of events/quests, so I would say yes.

EDIT: Now the first minor gameplay issue - if you start with a civ not supposed to be used in the ancient age, in the early exploration age you might lack policy cards to fill all spots:

Luckily this doesn't lock the game or something, you can just continue by leaving them open for the moment.

Had my first Civ7 game with this mod and man, it‘s already soooo much better!
I really had some fun playing 7 for the first time, i even ended the ancient era and started exploration.

Civ7 can be saved, i‘m confident. Just needs updates, proper modding tools and modding capabilities… then yeah, it can be saved.

Not sure if 1.2.3 causes it or if it was impacted before, but with this mod active I can't select for more than 8 AI opponents leader&civ ("+"-button is defunct and gives the warning sound/symbol when clicking it):

(Note: This does not mean that you can't play with 12 players, as this mod has a different way of setting # of players -see below-, but you can't "handpick" the extra ones)

I was so excited to come across this Mod! Now I can force the ancient civs to have their actual ancient leaders assigned. I am so tired of playing against Frederich of Egypt.

I mean is there a difference worth keeping this one updated, as my modding time is quite limited, and I'd prefer to maintain YnAMP

Played last weekend with Classic Civ, this weekend with Enduring Empires.
I have seen no difference so far, other than, if i understand correctly, that in Classic Civ the unique civ abilities don‘t make it to the next age, while in EE they should. At least the Persian Unique Commander wasn‘t available in Exploration with Classic Civ. For me personally, if in EE the civs doesn’t switch to another civs during an age transition, then EE seems to go a step further (abilities). So i for one then would prefer EE. Looking forward to YnAMP updates, of course.

I like to assign Xerxes the Achaemenid to Carthage but I notice that he switches to another leader (usually Tecumseh) when it transitions to the Age Of Exploration when using Classic Civ mod. Is this because of the leader I choose or the civ?

I will have to give EE a try to make a final verdict, but from what the description indicates I agree with @Shirotora Kenshin that it already seems to go even further in the desired direction. In that case discontinuing this and focussing on YnAMP would be fully understandable.

EDIT: Ok, after downloading EE and trying to setup my first game I noticed one thing EE doesn't feature: You are limited to the 10 ancient era civs when starting in this era, so no picking of exploration or modern civs here ("Classic Civ" in its alpha supports at least Exploration civs). That's quite a significant restriction to me, as I enjoy playing full games over all three eras...and then my civ pool is restricted to only 10. According to steam comments, the author of EE was already asked to change it and considered it, but decided against it at least for the time being if I understand it correctly (aside from the required effort to make advanced civs balanced in previous era, he seems to like it better with that restriction). So that would be the spot where Classic Civ has still something unique... Anyway and regardless if you will continue this or leave it: Thanks for the effort you made with this @Gedemon and the insights this mod gave to me :) Maybe a compromise would be enabling the Modern Civs for earlier use as last change here and then leave it on this state.

The dealbreaker for me in EE is the inability to choose from all civs, as mentioned in the posts above. I think that's the big one.
