Clive2 - Random Monarch

0) 1650BC: Zulus have cut us off from Spices to the north. Our military is average compared to Zulus. Zulus won't trade IW. Plan is to build up military, then when we get writing, open an embassy with Dora and bribe her with tech to help out. Byzantines got a bad start, though. We have elephants, we should also be going for SoZ.

1) 1625: Curragh built, heads nw. Tiwanaku starts archers. Worker moves ne of Ollan to road. Plan to settle 3ne of Machu.

2) 1600: Worker starts chopping forest s of Machu to hurry settler along.

3) 1575: Nothing much happening. Curragh keeps heading nw, chasqui heads home from Byzantium,

4) 1550: Cuzco builds archer, starts settler. Tiwanaku riots, shift fisherman to scientist.

5) 1525: Workers cross river, chop forest. Zulus found Hlobane in nw jungle. My scout is going to have to go through Zulu lands to get back home. I send curragh on suicide run to w along sea lane.

6) 1500: Curragh sinks, Cuzco expands. Our military is weak!

7) 1475: Learn writing, start math. Let's get that SoZ. We need 5 gold to open an embassy with Byzantines.

8) 1450: Machu builds settler, starts spear. Whip Tiwanaku to get archer.

9) 1425: Cuzco builds settler, starts archer.

10) 1400: Cori built, starts spear.

Settler should move 1 square w, where archer is camped. We should have enough money to open an embassy with the Byzantines. Our military is equal to Zulus. Shaka's idea of a good trade is to offer 2 gold for writing, but polite about it.

I'm a bit worried that 4 of our 5 cities are building military
but we only have a barracks in 1 city.

Obviously one can't help having to build a few regular units early on , but for me veterans have a big advantage over regulars.

How about building barracks in Tiwanaku and concerntrating military production in Tiwanaku and Cuzco ?

I agree. My suggestion is not to build Archers without Barracks, and you probably shouldn't build Spearmen without one either (I would just leave one Warrior for MP and prepare spears just to escort an Archer stack).

YanksGiant - you're up !

As I said before I am not going to impose a strict 24hr 'gotit' / 48 'play', but I will assume if we don't hear anything at all within 48 hrs of the last player completing you will need a skip.

If we don't hear from you by midnight tomorrow (UK time) we'll move on to the next in the roster

lurker's comment: squeeze 3 more cities into the south and east. Build rax, not temples. 'ware the Impi

Usually I prefer to build barracks first myself, but I thought it best to maintain parity with the Zulus, :hmm:

lurker's comment: Build barracks and not many temples (OT: this reminds me of Bede's Temple Rant, those from Clive1 probably remember it! If you're curious, click here .) Agree with AK on his advice. As soon as Ulundi is gone, settle a city up north to get spices.

Hopefully play another SG with you soon however I see you are playing well above Monarch at the moment so I will have to improce my game a bit before that happens :)
TY. Maybe when you make the Emperor jump...

BTW, good job on the start (the terrain is not that great), which I normally would not want to play (and getting an archipelago as the Inca... wow.)

Although I don't think Temples are a problem, they won't protect us from Zulu swordsmen.

lurker's comment: They aren't really problem, but that's 60 shields, or 3 archers/2 swords, so the shields are better spent on something else IMHO.

Its been almost 48 hours since the save was last played...

YanksGiant87 is up, right?

Yes - I posted last night that if he didn't issue a 'got it' by midnight UK time
tonight then we would skip him .

Noldodan - can you play soon if YanksGiant87 doesn't respond in the next couple of hours ?

Noldodan (on deck)

Sir Clive
ChuckDizzle
DBear (just played)
YanksGiant87 (up)

OK - I don't want this to grind to a halt so let's skip YanksGiant87.

Go for it Noldodan :)

If he reappears in the next day or so we'll swap Noldodan and YanksGiant
over in the Roster so that YanksGiant is up next

Revised roster

Noldodan (up)
Louis XXIV (on deck unless YanksGiant re-appears in the next 24hrs)
Sir Clive
ChuckDizzle

Yes , we had good advice from Bede on Temples. If I need culture buildings I now always try to build libraries if I can . The culture and science you get from a library is far far better value for money than that from a temple IMHO.

IBT: Scout moves.

IBT: Zulu scout finally moves back to its own territory. Chichen Itza builds The Oracle. :(
Turn 5 - Nothing of note.

Turn 6 - Troop buildup begins in Ollantaytambo. Tiwanaku looks to be rioting, I raise Lux to 20%.
IBT: Nothing.
Turn 7 - Machu Picchu builds Spearman, begins Barracks.
IBT: Nothing.
Turn 8 - Cuzco builds Archer, begins another. Tiwanaku builds Barracks, begins Settler.
IBT: Nothing.
Turn 9 - Math researched, Philosophy begun.

Turn 10 - Nothing.

Notes: Zulus will trade IW and 10 gold for Writing and Math. Just thought you'd like to know. This buildup's gonna take a while, too.
