Okay need some advice. This is not a vote, only your educated input will be taken into account. I plan on making a turreted heavy coastal battery like how Goodwin made a very long time ago. I still have not decided whether or not to cover the turret/barrel in protective concrete yet. Keep in mind that I am going for a "german" Atlantik Wall or whatever.

I've already done a small version

Here are the turrets I have available to me aranged in order of Caliber.

Iowa 3x16inch
Bismark 2x15inch
KGV 4x14inch
KGV 2x14inch
Nevada 3x14inch
Eugen 2x8inch
DP 2x150mm
DP 2x5 inch

The Bismark 2x15 looks the best for heavy coastal artillery.

I differ. I prefer the Nevada and the KGV 4x14.

The Nevada will show up more on the the unit and make it look more powerful while having a nice look and the KGV 4x14 is how I always pictured modern coastal artillery and looks nice with the upward slanted guns.

I personally like the Iowa 16" x 3 turret. Reminds me of the coastal batteries of 16 inchers they had around San Fran, and L.A.

I voted Iowa and Nevada because I couldn't choose between the 2.

Ah, but we are not talking about SF or L.A. :p ;)

two prototypes I have for a giant wall type defence. The two bulges are pill boxes for machine guns.

I like the second, white one better of the two.

that said, a version of the bismark turret, in the stytle the same as the turret at the top of the page would be very cool as well

I like the Bismarck version best. Although if you really want to have correct coastal artillery for a WW II mod, then you should check out the Todt battery in CDV's Blitzkrieg.

can I get a link for that?

I am not sure how to get the unit graphics out of the game, but there is a small picture on this website. It is a units database for Blitzkrieg.

http://blitzkrieg.console.cc/

Once you get to the site, pick "Units Database" then German units, then set the filter to artillery. The coastal gun/Todt battery is the first one. It is a large concrete bunker with a 380mm gun. It is based off of actual coastal fortifications in Normandy. There is only a small picture on this site, but you might be able to find some screenshots if you poke around this site:

http://www.cdv-blitzkrieg.de/index.php?page=news.en.blitz

Just go to the screenshots section or the downloads section (there should be a picture of the coastal gun in one of the megapicture downloads).

Hope this helps.

They also had them on Pt. Loma, in San Diego during WWII. During the early years of the War, they were afraid the Japanese would invade and overrun the west cost before the country could gear up its war production to meet the demands of the conflict. That being said, and also because I'm a Navy guy, I vote for the Iowa 16 inchers. :D

Wyrm's design's are nice, but i like real life stuff. :D

Here is a pic of the Ft. Story fortress with 16" guns. Then a close up of one of the Ft. Story 16" guns. :)
