Hi there,

I'm playing a multiplayer BtS - hot seat game and I don't understand something. We're playing on a Lakes map and I have my capital on quite a large lake near the map's edge, while the other player has some cities on smaller lakes.

I can now build a lighthouse in my capital, but the other players can't, even in cities build on the edge of lakes with 5 or 6 water tiles.

We both have the sailing technology that is required for the lighthouse.

How come I can, and the other player can't build a lighthouse improvement? What requirement am I missing?

Could it be something with the definition of a 'coastal city'? Can any one tell me exactly what this definition is perhaps?

Thanks and happy gaming!!

I think lighthouse requires 'sea' coast for the city as well (i don't remember exactly what lakes map is like).

What do you mean by 'sea' coast then? Does that mean that there has to be at least one 'sea' square?

(There are three kinds of water tiles, right? Coastal, Sea and Ocean?)

There is a tile limit for an inland sea... I think a lake that is larger than 10 tiles is an inland sea and therefore you can build the lighthouse. as I recall it anyway.

There's also a distinction between fresh water and sea. You can't build a Lighthouse if the only water you have access to is fresh. As mentioned, you need an inland body of water that's larger than 10 tiles before it becomes sea. Anything smaller is considered a fresh water lake.
