More slaves taken in Africa.
The Alpine village of Thun has been taken under French protection and granted a town charter. This is not entirely altruistic, as we hope to use the place as a forward concentration point for a campaign against Hapsburg-held Italy.
The town is also exceptionally rich in Gold deposits....
The Native village of MicMac was destroyed this month, in reprisal for repeated raids on St. Sauveur. Some small plunder was found.
The Royal Cardinal has informed the English and Dutch [D'oh! I mean Spanish, of course...] ambassadors that France will be at war with their countries with effect from 1st January 1640. Holland is expected to honour her alliance with France and enter the war soon thereafter.. No action has been taken (or will be taken) by French forces before this.
We note with some surprise that our Swedish allies, no doubt anxious to claim the honour of being first onto the battlefield, declared war on Spain (but not England) earlier this year. We are not sure if this had the official sanction of the Swedish Kansler...

John, you've done it again: you've entered four units in the city radius of Milan and Trento! Are you going to retire these units before the war start??? What is Thun?? These units are clearly in my country as the square they're in are closest to my cities that to yours cities I need to know what are you going to do before moving (I also have position to take - but in my country!!!)

Yaro - Yes, I have done it: my units are preparing for war next move. However, I have founded a city in Thun two squares due east of Geneva, so these units are now closer to my city than to Milan. Also, you Conquistador is now in MY territory...

The now decapitated general Anders Ingvarsson was found to be the cause of a secret treaty with the independent states of northern Germany and Denmark.
Acording to this treaty Sweden was to declare war versus Spain and defend the independent states.
This is the source of the strange rumours about premature war between Spain and Sweden. Swedish diplomats have been working furiously to restore the situation to pre the AI incident

After much consideration the English government has decided to shift our foriegn policy direction. Instead of containment or waiting for something to happen, The British Government has decided to strike out and attack our enemies wherever they maybe. Either you are with us or against us. And since France and the Dutch have clearly demonstrated there intent to destroy England we have decided to strike first!!!

At this order roughly 20 000 swedish battle hardened troops has begun marching on the Anglo-Spanish coalition.
Orders has also been sent out to Swedish troops around the world to seek down and eliminate any English or Spanish troops.
Another army being created in Sweden to reinforce the Torstenssons troops in Germany is reported to be headed for the port of Gothenburg where several cargo ships await their arrival...
