Poznan has now been virtually abondoned by the Swedish armies, only a small force remain to make sure the city doesn't fall to the Imperials should these be able to muster an offensive again against all odds.

Swedish troops left guarding Poznan against Imperial attacks this winter.

In North africa a group of English slavers has been ambushed by Swedish colonial cavalry, the slaves where then set free and given a few weapons in the hope that they would start an insurection in the English slave factory nearby...

The amendments to the Swedish constitution are now complete, the Royal assurance of Gustav II Adol has been replaced by a new one signed by her Majesty the Queen, Christina I.
Following these constitutional amends several economical reforms have been undertaken all over Sweden. More kronojord (Crownland) has also been given out to succesfull Swedish commanders.

While hostilities has been limited so far the Swedish commanders are confident that they will be able to beat the Anglo-Spanish alliance into submission.
Peace was concluded with Denmark and the remaining north german dutchies oposing Sweden, as of this peace Brandenburg will become a Swedish vassal without an army on her own, the remnants of her existing army will be absorbed into the Swedish armies. Furthermore the Skånelands has been ceded to Sweden by Denmark and the Danish king has given up his right to the hated Sound Due for all eternity.

Two French units destroyed outside of new plymouth. Horse Trooper easily dispatched the Pikeman who was on a swamp, and I assume unfortified due to movement restrictions.

Horsey is down about halfway in the yellow.

I'll play France later. It's too sunny this evening at the moment to play computers....

Tell me about it! Beautiful here as well in the Hearthland of the Good Ole USA!

Enjoy!:D

Chevaliers land outside New Plymouth and immediately carry out a surprise attack. The 50% damaged English "Horseys" ;) were caught in the open and routed. The Chevaliers lost just over half of their veteran soldiers....Artillery is landed to assist the attack on the settlement itself.

The Indians close in on our Hunting Parties in the forests around the Great Lake Eire.

The 60% damaged Spanish galleon off the coast of Brittany was attacked by a French squadron. It defeated a full strength non-vet galleon (reduced to 5% itself) and was then defeated by a 70% damaged veteran (reduced to 65%)

The small Dutch incursion on the English coast at Hastings was reinforced by Frenchmen landing all over Kent.

The war of manoevre in the Alps continues.... and throughout French lands privateering commissions are handed out and recruitment of likely rogues begins...:D

And I had a damn fine bike ride, too. Thanks! ;) It's a beautiful sunset now, and a fine forecast for the weekend as well.

Good job - it's the wife's birthday on Saturday and we are off to the Cotswold hills for walking, wine-ing and dining.....

Say Happy Birthday to her from all the civ-players who are enjoying your last-scen as a single-men ;)

John

Was my Horsey outside of New Plymouth? I dont remember that, I thought it was inside?

Im just wondering if some movement occurred by general AI?

Thanks and have a nice weekend.

Nope, Steve. I was just adding "colour" to my report. It was in the city, and I am surprised my cavalry did so well against it through the city walls. Was it veteran (mine were)?

Hmmm, I forgot to post that, I think it was, I believe it got veteran status when it poppped your pikemen. Ill double check when I get home tonight.

Why did you attack the Horse first I wonder? Or was that the second unit you killed. I believe I have both a pikemen and fortification in there as well.

Hmmmmmmm. Ill double check this stuff tonight.

The AI offered up the Horse Trooper unit as the defender to my Chevaliers. Which is logical in historical terms, but I never really know how it works out who is the "best" defender. The stockade is usually the last resort, however...

Ya I know about the stockade and horsey vs horsey maybe historical BUT I would want to sheild my horseys with Pikeman against your horsey's first and then counterattack withmy Horseys. Just seems strange it doesn't take on the higher defender first? (or am I thinking CIV 3?) Horsey is lower in defense than Pikeman, correct?

Anyway Im just babbling. And maybe we need to adjust defense ratings here. What is the point of building a pikeman other than the cheap cost?

Just rambling thoughts to generate discussion, Im not b1tching, just perplexed.

They both defend at 4. (The Chevaliers only defend at 3 though.)

I would be reluctant to make the Pikemen higher in defence, so maybe the Horse Troopers should be lower?

I made them (and the Ritters) defend better (and attack worse) than the French Chevaliers because of the way those units were trained and deployed in reality.

However, in this period, it was much more likely that the Horse would sort it out between themselves, and then the winners turn on the enemy infantry - so I'm not too worried from a historical viewpoint. From a gameplay viewpoint I understand (and to an extent) share your feelings....

Hmmm, same defense, huh? There must be a factor for HP that outweighs either "total Life left" or fotification then, Because I know the Pikeman is fortified.

Anyway it just seems strange to me, not necessarily your choice of stats John just how the game chooses who defends first.

Ah well, let the last days of the fledgling British Empire continue :)

BTW John what the he!! are you doing posting? Aren't you supposed to be off for a romantic weekend on the brides birthday? The one year clock is ticking John you need to take advantage before time runs out!:D ;)

We are off tomorrow morning - this is my last self-indulgence before we access "anything-little-Suzie-wants" mode...;)

Yes, the Horse Trooper has 3 HP and 3 FP, the Pikeman only 4 and 1. To get the overall power, I find that multipling them together gives the approximate result - so the Trooper is 2+ times stronger. Even at 50% strength they are better, as long as they both have the same veteran status...
