Colonies IV MP beta test

Veteran Royal Cannon knocks off Pikeman and cannon outside of Dover, cannon in red.

A Regular Cannon (Royal) takes gets killed while attacking a horsey outside of Dover. (Hills and Rivers are awfully dam tough.)

Veteran Arquisbister takes down what I assume was a pikeman outside of Plymouth stacked with a royal cannon.

Thats about it.

Dutch veteran Ritter beats English Pikmen in New Plymouth (vet, fortified on Grassland I think), and is reduced to 10% strength.

Dutch veteran Pikeman beats Spanish Culverin in Forests near Antwerp, and is reduced to 80% strength.

Peace made with the Independents.

Independent Government overthrown...Ceasefire agreed with the Provisional Government.

Troop landing near Exeter - this time, proper preparations have been made to prepare siege fortifications...

A safe road established for French forces through the mountain passes towards Trento.

No combats this move.

P&P

French forces destroyed near Trento [Veteran Conqueror destroyes Pikemen and some other units, in a hill, and is hurt bad to a 15% or 20% of their HP]

No more news: the defeat at Orthez is still a painfull obstacle to the elsewhere victorius Spanish Army.

A question: Isn't it getting too much euro-centric for a COLONIES game?

Other than the fact that we are playing John;)

My guess is normally this would be early for a general all out war.

But the new colonies was made so that war fare in Europe was much more doable and interesting.

Steve has it right. Although my earlier Colonies scenarios were fun, they weren't really very well balanced. In this period, Europe was the main concern, and the Colonies merely another arena to carry on European stuggles.

Later on, they became important in their own right, financially. Never militarily, really, even up to and including the American War of Independence.

I would have had more European nations, and an even bigger Europe, if I could have had more than 7 nations, plus Barbarians....

The units near Trento were a non-veteran Pikeman and a non-veteran Arquebusier. Those veteran Conquistadores of the Spanish are hugely powerful at this early stage.

Steve, it was you who (quite rightly) suggested that this playtest needed a war...;)

Sweden (Henrik) to move.

Yes John and I of course knew you would be all for it!:D
Strictly for the benefit of the playtest of course!

Did you try to kill my cavalry in africa? (as that was an arcebusier beside one of my units as I recall)

Are you kidding, I think I got you in the yellow and thats it.

Im dead.

Arquibisters just suck!:D

Veteran Culverin attacks Castle in Ipswich and loses (can't see the damage.)
Veteran Ritters attack Clansmen in Ipswich and win (and are reduced to 10% strength.)
The Fortress started last move completed outside Ipswich and packed with Pikemen, Ritters and Cannon.
Road pillaged south of Ipswich.

Luxuries rate raised to contain public disquiet at the war....

Natives massacre French Colonists in the forests outside St. Sauveur.

Independents change to Const. Monarchy.

Steve, did you destroy all 4 Pikemen I had encamped outside Exeter? They have disappeared! How the hell did you destroy 4 vet Pikemen and two Sappers in a fort without loss anyway? Could you post your combat results, please? There obviously was a combat, because English Pikemen now occupy that fort.

French Galleon attacks an English Galleon outside Exeter that was blockading our (disappeared) Pikemen. It was destroyed and the Englishman reduced to 10% strength.

French Galleon attacks that Galleon again and wins, is promoted veteran, and is reduced to 95% strength.

French veteran Chevaliers land outside Exeter and attack the town. They are defeated by 40% strength Clansmen, who are now 35% strength. (THAT was a surprise result!)

Just to see, I tried again with another vet Chevalier, and that unit too was defeated by the same Clansmen, who are now at 30% strength. Amazing. Of course the City Walls in Exeter have some effect. (Didn't stop the Dutch Ritters outside Ipswich though....)

French Veteran Royal Cannon attack New Plymouth and destroy defending Fortified (veteran?) Pikemen. Cannon reduced to 90% strength.

French Arquebusiers attack the Stockade at Santa Cruz, and reduce it to about 10% strength, but are defeated. Veteran Chevaliers attack next and reduce the stockade with maybe 3% reduction in strength. They then move in and occupy the town, renamed Saint Croix.

Cruising French Warship spots Spanish Treasure convoy, but cannot quite overhaul the Carracks! :(

French develop many Legal Reforms, which should reduce our heavy corruption rates somewhat! We are also building many Cannon Foundries, as the few French Cannon we had to begin with seem to have been frittered away quite stupidly....
