Colonies IV MP beta test

Nothing much happened during the Dutch turn, except that peace was made - at the Staats General's insistence - with the Independents. Some Native raiders defeated some of our Arquebusiers outside Fort Casimir.

The file I will post here for info, but it is the French turn next, so I'll play again.

The French notice with interest the Spanish farmers arrived on the Channel Islands. France may be willing to grant a licence to settle here, either for cash, or for a reciprocal licence in the Balearic Islands....We await word from Madrid....

Plunder taken from Native huts near Goree.

St Sauveur fights off two separate raiding parties...

The siege has begun of Nice and Geneva.

Wait a second here you didn't specifically say the Channel Islands were Frances for the purposes of Colonization.

I say its free territory, first come, first served.

The Channel Islands are just off the French coast and a city there could potentially overlap with one of mine.

But, if that's the principle - OK. Let's hear Spain sign up to that as well, and I'm happy enough. However, Spain may wish to protect "her" islands in a similar way. If so, I assert my rights over the Channel Islands.

After all, you made a huge song and dance about "Your right" to annex Ireland, and "your sphere of influence" there. How is that different? If it's first come, first served, just watch me descend upon Ireland! :D

How would you like it if I decided to colonize south-west Wales? In fact, I'm getting impatient with England meddling in the affairs of Spain and France. It is none of your concern. Let Spain speak for herself.

I might just decide to colonise Wales and take over Scotland, too. The next time the English stick their oar in, to try to stir up trouble for France, I will.

Cardinal Richlieu.

I think so, because the Channel Islands could also be considered part of England...

I want to do a notification of abscence:

I'll be out of city from the Saturday to July the 15th. I'll try to connect the Saturday in order to move my turn, if possible :)

I'll move my turn later, and I'll build the city ;)

I don't understand this very well: the island on the Carribean sea are mine, because I've cities in these islands, but you don't have a city on these Islands. A city where I want to build it will not overlap with your cities, and I think that England has a also a right to these Islands ;)

Sorry, I didn't see this message until I post mine, so mine could be no-sense now ;)

Ok Jhon, I'm ready to move, but I'll give you more time to post your ideas about the city - If you want that the city will be not build, you should offer a thing to Spain, as England did with you about Ireland ;)

I don't want to rush, but only some hours ago I get my Engineer degree, so this week I'll be very bussy with the celebrations, and the next week I'll be out - Let's say that I'll give you some days to answer, but anyway, I ought to play before the Saturday, because the Saturday I go out of my city.

The Spanish King believes the Swedish Kansler is a kind of heretic :p ;)

England Scotland and Wales are considered in the English Sphere of influenece. This includes all the Islans West, NW and North of Scotland. In exchange I agree not to settle in any other location in Europe proper without previous permission of the great powers that are near where I may propose to settle.

Ireland was already decided per previous agreement.

Dont know what you are getting so huffy about Cardinal. Spain is my ally and Im going to stick up for her simple as that.

There were no previous claims on the Channel Islands which England Historically has a claim to as well. So I dont understand why all the horse trading had to take place.

A few years ago I got a lecture about not doing diplomacy, and when I do it I get a lecture. Please make up your mind.

Steve,

For heaven's sake, keep doing the diplomacy - it's the best bit! All of this should be taken "in character", which is why I signed myself "Cardinal". ;)

English Chancellor, (as opposed to Steve)

England, Scotland and Wales may be considered the English sphere of influence - by England! France does not acknowledge your claims, although it chooses not to dispute them by force at this moment. We have a "hands-off" agreement over Ireland, that Spain and Holland persuaded me to agree to, but there is a one-year break clause therein, and I WILL break it if England starts claiming rights over territory in France or just off the French coast, or even tries to exert diplomatic pressure about them.

One thing is for certain, the Channel Islands are closer to England than France, and a city thereon overlaps the French mainland, not the English one. In the vernacular -"butt out!" ;)

Spanish Junta,

I am mystified about your conversation about the Carribean. I am talking about the Balearic Islands (Majorca and Minorca, etc). You have a city thereon (Palma) but it does not stop France settling the other islands. However, the situation is similar because the city radii overlap and there may be conflict over resources. More importantly, strategically Spain may not feel comfortable with a French naval base so near to her coasts and shipping routes. If she does feel uncomfortable, she will understand EXACTLY how France feels about the Channel Islands.

If France allows Spanish settlements off her coasts, Spain will have to allow the principle that France can build within Spanish city radii wherever she likes, as long as this is not actually on the mainland of European Spain....Do you wish to agree that?

However, if Spain wishes for something for NOT building on the Islands concerned, she gets this:

Continued peace with France.

Spanish settlement on the Channel Islands without prior agreement by France will be considered an act of war.

[/character mode]

No hard feelings guys, I just want to make this exciting....

Well fine if you dont want to agknowledge any of my claims then I won't agknowledge any of yours!

I hadn't noticed that you had!

(Of course, the statement that you would refrain from marching the mighty English armies to annex Picardy and Normandy was gratefully received by the trembling handful of old men that constitute the pitiful French defence force...;) )

England only has a "historical claim" to the Channel Islands because they originally belonged to Duke William of Normandy - a Frenchman who conquered your islands. Let that be a warning to you! :D
