Common BTS 3.19 Problem

I am having a problem with the 3.19 patch for BTS which seems to be very common but hasn't been solved as far as I know (many google and forum searches). When I run it as both user and administrator, it loads installshield, which only loads halfway before installshield opens. Then it gives the option to register and all that stuff. But then when you click install, it closes the window and an installer doesn't pop up.

I am running this on Vista which may have something to do with it, however the game works perfectly fine. I've tried running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP service pack 2, but that doesn't help. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Yes i've done that. I've also tried running it in different compatability modes, too. This includes safe mode as well, which loaded installshield all the way but still had the same problem. I think this issue is beyond the general ways of fixing .exe problems.

perhaps vista is the problem?

most people with vista and even vista 64 don't have this problem. This included me when I had to use a vista 64 computer for a short while while my main gaming computer was in vacation repair. While it might have to do with Vista - its certainly not the only reason...

How did you install the game? is this civ4 and bts or also warlords? are both the disc version? is there an error message in the windows event manager when installshield crashes?

I get this in event viewer:

And yes these are all disks I have.

Yes I have warlords and vanilla. They are both updated to current. And of course I have tried admin rights several times.

It's not like it's shutting down and saying I don't have admin rights or something. It just shuts down without warning and leaves no traces save for the event viewer.

I would do a complete reinstall as below making sure to run all installers and patches with admin rights (i.e. right click on them and choose run as admin). Also: while doing so disable any other programs that maybe running - e.g. antivir software - these sometimes interfere with running installers.

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
