Communitas map script

Thank you Thal for providing this map.

It works wonderfully.

Kudos to you!

Did version 3.2 work for you? I can't get the standalone map to show up?

I am still using 3.1.9.

Just now d/l the Communitas Map. It appears @stackpointer is correct. The file is truncated and therefore is completely useless.

You will just have to wait for Thal to upload an amended file.

It looks like something went wrong with the upload. I'll upload the new version. :)

The new version will include all the map options I completed today. I haven't had time to test these new additions thoroughly, so there might be more hotfixes tomorrow.

Looking at the v3.2 format I can see that the Communitas map is now removed.
Can't see how that is a wise move.
If people want to use the map without using the whole mod, that's fine. (though I don't know why. Do such people exist?)
The majority of us would probably use everything together.
So. Why not make a seperate mod for just the map. As you have, but keep the map intact as part of the whole package of CEP.

Excellent! I look forward to trying out the new script in a fresh game tonight.

(And yes, those people do exist. I'm one of them. It depends on which mods I want to use at the time. :3)

I want Cep to have more independent parts than Gem. People will be able to choose from the map, gameplay enhancements, or interface improvements, with less dependency between these than my projects had in the past. This also makes it more likely part of my work will survive future patches after I'm gone from modding.

Hi Thal,

Is "v1.0.1 Beta Updated July 28 2013 @ 21:47 CST (UTC-5)" the latest file? or is it still the broken upload one?

I noticed you've updated the file history on your site, but when I try this file it still doesn't show the map in the list. (cleared cache and everything)

Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or just need to be patient for the new upload.

I downloaded this file and still can't get the map to appear in the list, so not sure either way. :<

Try changing the following in the modinfo file:

PHP:
<File md5="594CD21941327426CA38C614EA94A3BD" import="0">Communitas.lua</File>

to this:

PHP:
<File md5="594CD21941327426CA38C614EA94A3BD" import="1">Communitas.lua</File>

I haven't had the chance to try out the new map yet but the 272 kB Communitas.lua file should be the correct one.

That would do it. Thank you.

I generated a few maps, and things look interesting. The game was a little too mountain/hillless for me, (after being used to PW), so I changed that to my liking.

One thing I need to mention is that, while the oasis issue certainly appears fixed -- atoll is everywhere. From the top of the continents all the way to the bottom, right beside ice, and just so much of it. Sooo much.

Another 'issue' is that the continents are reaching all the way to the north/south poles. This may just be preference, though, as I prefer the tops and bottoms of landmasses to be navigable by sea. Prevents such things as city states becoming stuck if they spawn on a small landmass surrounded by ice, which I saw constantly happening.

In 3.19 I loaded 3 map 3 times with france and every time Paris was in the desert. But the natural wonders are now great.

I want to keep land away from the poles. I have not figured out how to do that yet.

The original PerfectWorld script had 50% of land covered in hills. I reduced hills to 15%, but people felt that was too low, so I raised it back up to 20%. I'd be okay with dropping it back down again if we feel 20% creates too many hills.

@Anastase Alex
Desert starts can actually be quite powerful with the pantheon beliefs. Did you have floodplains or oases nearby? Floodplains are basically grassland.

@Qwynn
The 1:c5food: 1:c5production: isles are any land too small to have a city, but large enough for humans to visit and harvest. Bonuses like these make offshore islands desirable for exploration and settlement. I call them "isles" in this project because tiny islands exist everywhere in the real world (not just the tropics). I like the look of island areas:

I've always loved the Isles in communitas, both realistic and fun to play with. A simple name change from Atolls to Isles would help a lot, though (which we've had for a while in VEM/GEM anyway).

I guess the one downside is.... they are a bit silly looking, with so many of them and so few different versions. In the long term, it would be great if someone could create some new models, ideally some with a bit of height, so that they aren't just zero elevation atolls, and with the island in the center, rather than just being the atoll-around-the-lagoon style. The atoll graphics work fine for coral atolls, but not so well for other kinds of islands.

While that's true, it's good having some representation. Almost every coast in real life has some islands off-shore (some larger than others) and there's no real way to represent archipelagos well without a tile like that (since boats can't move through land).

Weren't atolls added purely because of the Polynesia DLC anyway? Strange how such a valuable addition was just an afterthought.
