Sometimes I wish we had a separate sub-forum for complaints. I get it. Lots of people don't like the game. It definitely needs some work, but I try to come in and see some interesting discussions on strategy or people talking about cools things that happened and all I see is complaints.

I think complaining is valid and useful, I just wish I could avoid it unless I wanted to see it.

While some complaits are valid i feel the same way as yourself, i believe they are only useful if the dev team is reading them.

I don't think taking all the criticism, from tiny minor nitpicks and bugs to large discussion threads and throwing it someplace no one will see will be healthy.
Being out in the general discussion lets fans and critics have regular conversation. Otherwise, this new forum could fester into a toxic area to be.

There’s actually already a strategy sub-forum for discussing strategy and a stories and tales one for cool stories if those topics are more your speed. I tend to bounce around in all of them.
Me too but there's some threads in general discussion that i no longer bother opening as they are full of negativity, i just mark them as read and move on. There's plenty of negativity on reddit without me reading it here too.

Yeah makes sense. I tried to create a positivity thread once to balance things but it was deleted by the mods, so I never tried again. I guess it broke some rule and I didn’t want to push it. It’s nice to hear from people who love the game what they love about it too.

But where else will I read that Civ is dead, It's fundamentally flawed and nothing could ever be done about it? /s

Honestly I'm just mostly waiting for the june patch, I remain optimistic that Firaxis will fix whatever has to be fixed and polish whatever has to be polished, but man it will take a while.

Yea, let's create our own little echo chambers. That's going to help...
If you create a sub forum just for complaints, suggestions, and feedback, if the devs are reading some of what’s posted here it will give them an area to focus on, similar to how their official discord has a specific feedback channel.
If someone isn’t playing Civ7 I don’t see the point in writing about it, if it was me I’d just go back to playing a previous edition I did enjoy and write about it instead.

That's a bad idea imo. Things that goes into sub-fora only gets seen by a tiny percentage of members here. Just because you don't agree with it does not mean it's not a valid contribution. A discussion is supposed to contained both sides, after all.
Then maybe there should be a way to filter out or only view specific threads in general discussion that a person is or isn’t interested in.

You might be able to get an LLM to filter the page and convert any complaints to praise? Shouldn’t be too complicated.
lol. I know that would upset a lot of people. Personally if people want to vent they should be able to, I’ve just become tired of seeing all the negativity towards a game I enjoy.

Yeah it annoys me to come here when I want to actually talk about the game and topic after topic is from people complaining about the game. Not even gameplay, just general complaints.

Seems to me there are four threads to avoid: Player stats, Why Civ VII Doesn't Feel Like a Civ Game, How Important is it for Firaxis to Admit Mistakes, and, more recently, Seven Myths.

Stay out of those four and you should be mostly fine.

It’s tough when Civ7 has become something at least vaguely analogous to the Jar Jar Binks of the franchise, but people who sincerely love Jar Jar must feel similarly and I empathise. It would be so annoying to hear Jar Jar jokes and complaints everywhere after a while, and that does suck, and isn’t really fair.

The threads in the forum dedicated to gameplay are generally free from complaints. For example, take a look at the thread about Aksum or the thread about "Tell us the story of your current game". I skimmed over them and I didn't see any comments that were just moaning about the game and not on point.

That being said, the threads about "complains", sales, stats, etc. are far more active because well, many of us that earned the right to call ourselves civ fanatics contribute discussing the state of the latest installment and its impact on the franchise. Luckily, the titles of these popular "complaining" threads are pretty straightforward and thus easily avoidable.
